Edward J. Goebel, age 76, of Boyd, passed away peacefully at his son's home on Sunday, Nov. 20.

Ed was born on October 2, 1935, the son of Chester and Clara (Nichols) Goebel, in Taylor County.

He grew up in the Gilman area, graduating from Gilman High School. He moved to Kenosha, working for AMC for a few years, then moved back to Gilman.

On February 19, 1956 he was united in marriage to Lucille Semanko at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Huron. He and Lucille owned a bar in Gilman before buying a farm where they raised their family. They then moved to Medford and later Curtiss. Ed had a great love for animals, enjoyed fishing, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and watching the Brewers.


Ed is survived by his four sons, Larry (Milli) Goebel of Boyd, Dale (Jeannie) Goebel of Lancaster, Calif., Wes (Shannon) Goebel of Jacksonville, Fla., and Gary Goebel of Owen-Withee; three daughters, Cheri (Jarrod) Hague of Lake Hallie, Lori (Scott) Jalling of Owen and Chris (Bob) Hansen of Park Falls; 21 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Jack (Anita) Goebel of Gilman, Chet "Junior" (Marge) Goebel of Stanley, David (Alexis) and Tom (Evelyn) Goebel, both of Gilman; and three sisters, Mary Westaby and Janice Potapenko of Stanley and Sylvia "Sib" Pember of Menomonie. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucille, on July 18, 1999; and sister, Carla Goebel.


Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Gilman, with Father John Long officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadowbrook Cemetery in Gilman. Friends and family may call on Friday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Plombon Funeral Home, Stanley, and one hour prior to service time at the church in Gilman on Saturday.
