Louise Marie Johnson, 91, Estes Park, Colo., died on Sunday, Oct. 16 at Prospect Park Living Center.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Oct 27 at Good Samaritan Village, with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 119. Interment was at Fort Logan National Cemetery near Denver.

Allnutt Funeral Service of Estes Park assisted the family with arrangements.

Louise Marie Johnson, 91, of Estes Park, died Oct. 16, 2011, at Prospect Park Living Center, after a short illness. Her home was at Good Samaritan Village in Estes Park.

Louise Marie Sebelik was born to Louis and Mary (Simek) Sebelik in Ogema, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert P. Johnson. She is survived by her brothers, Irven of Menominee Falls, Wis., and Milton of Estes Park; nieces Doris (Sebelik) Alberts, Wendy (Sebelik) Craddock and Kathy (Sebelik) Kelley of Estes Park; and Dr. Merry Sebelik of Memphis, Tenn. As Louise and Bob had no children of their own, they considered all nieces and nephews as their own family.

After graduation from Westboro, Wis., High School in 1937, Louise sought work in Chicago, Ill. When World War II broke out, she volunteered to join the United States Navy as a WAVE in October of 1943. She was trained and became an aviation machinist's mate. Her duties were servicing and preparing Navy fighter planes for shipment to war zones. She was honorably discharged from the Navy in September of 1945 as the war ended. This is when her military lifestyle began. She met and married lieutenant Robert Johnson, who had been a B-17 bomber navigator over Germany. Thus, she became a military wife and traveled the world on assignments. Of course, she had to sit out and wait as he took part in wars in both Korea and Vietnam. He retired as lieutenant colonel after 30 years of service, and the couple retired to their newly built home in St. Petersburg, Fla. They were both avid lovers of boating. They purchased a diesel-power boat, and became members of the St. Petersburg Power Squadron. They sailed most of the waters of Southern Florida, until Bob became ill. At that time, they moved to Estes Park, to be near Louise's brother and family.

Funeral and military services will be held at Good Samaritan Village Thursday, Oct. 27, at 3 p.m. with military honors by American Legion Post 119.

Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery near Denver. Louise had a great respect and admiration for our heroes that fought and died to preserve our freedom. Louise would be honored by anyone wanting to make a memorial donation to Wounded Warriors of America, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) or American Legion Post 119.
