Roland A. Schneider, 90, Medford, died on Thursday, Jan. 12 at his home.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 14 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger, Father Fredrick Brost and Deacon Joseph Stefancin officiating.

Burial was at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Stetsonville. Pallbearers were his grandchildren, Kristen Sigurdson, David Greene, Steven Egle, Carrie Freas, Brian Egle, Susan Stark, Pamela Gulish, Laura Lundy and Kevin Egle.


Hemer Funeral Service of Medford assisted the family with arrangements.


Roland Schneider was born on April 30, 1921 on the family farm in the Town of Deer Creek to the late Adam N. and Mary M. (Brunner) Schneider. He attended Pleasant Valley School, in the Town of Deer Creek, which was built by his grandfather. He worked on the family farm and as an electrician with his father.


On June 1, 1943 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester, he married Amelia M. Schmid, who preceded him in death on November 22, 2007.

They purchased the Schneider homestead and operated the dairy farm, which then became a mink ranch, until retirement in 1967. They then moved to the Town of Medford where they operated a sugarbush. He was also an inventor and has numerous patents.


He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, and the Catholic Order of Foresters, and past member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Stetsonville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.


Survivors include three daughters, Barbara (Jerry) Schreiner, Karen (Philip) Sulko and Jean (Ben) Egle, all of Medford; a sister, Carol Kronfuss of Babbitt, Minn.; nine grandchildren, Kristen (Chris) Sigurdson of St. Cloud, Minn., David (Heather) Greene of Fish Creek, Steven (Katrina) Egle of Marshfield, Carrie (Christopher) Freas of Centerville, Minn., Brian (Shannon) Egle of Knoxville, Tenn., and Susan (Dustin) Stark, Pamela (William) Gulish, Laura (Todd) Lundy and Kevin (Staci) Egle, all of Medford; and 26 great-grandchildren.


In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jean Schneider in infancy, and eight siblings, Helen Retterath, Irene Riegert, Arthur, Winifred Schneider, Kenneth, Kathryn Laski, Ruth Retterath and Clyde.
