Victoria S. Syryczuk, 85, Lublin, died on Saturday, Dec. 31 at Oakbrook Health and Rehab in Thorp.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 5 at St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church in Lublin, with Rev. Marion Talaga officiating. Burial was at St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church Cemetery.


Thorp Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.


The former Victoria Szemraj was born on May 9, 1926 in the Town of Roosevelt in rural Lublin to the late Stanley and Mary (Wyczykowski) Szemraj. She was raised on the family farm and attended Lublin area schools. After her education, she went to work at Blue Moon Cheese in Thorp.


On October 29, 1949 at St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church, she married Donald Syryczuk, who preceded her in death on May 19, 1999. She continued working at Blue Moon Cheese for a few more years. She was a homemaker and farm wife, working on the farm with her husband until selling the farm to their son, Andy, in 1991. She lived on the farm until December 2008 when she entered Oakbrook Health and Rehab.


She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include a son, Andrew (Alice) of Lublin; four grandchildren, Mark (Odessa), Donald (Jessica), Douglas (Nicole) and Nicholas (Stacy); 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Stanley, John, Joe, Pete and Walter, and two sisters, Bernice Bandach and Frances Lewan.
