Hazel I. Meyer, 98, Medford, died on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center in Medford, where she had resided the past nine years.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 1 p.m. at Hemer Funeral Home in Medford, with Rev. Pete Warmanen officiating. Burial will be at Perkinstown Community Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.


Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.


The former Hazel Westrich was born on November 17, 1913 in Perkinstown to the late Ernest W. and Edna (Dufield) Westrich. She attended Gilman public schools.


On July 6, 1933 in Perkinstown, she married Herman W. Meyer, who preceded her in death on December 25, 1997. They moved to the city of Medford in 1945 and she worked as a housewife and mother throughout her life.


She was a past member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Medford. She enjoyed fishing, sewing, cooking, baking, camping, jigsaw puzzles, visiting relatives and her dogs.


Survivors include two daughters, Geneva Knippel of Medford and Anita (David) Johnson of Madison; two sons, Marvin (Karen) and Alvin, both of Tampa, Fla.; a half-brother; six half-sisters; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Joyce, in 1938; a grandson, Anthony Meyer in 1988; a son-in-law, Leon Knippel in 2011; two sisters, Marjorie Von Einem and Iola Meyer; and eight half-brothers and half-sisters.
