Hood, Eugene F. (12 Dec. 1916 – 1 Jan. 1995)

Eugene F. Hood, 78, of 10969 Stadt Road, Marshfield, died at 5:20 p.m. Sun. Jan. 1, 1995, at the Bethel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Arpin where he had been a patient for the past month.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thur. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Marshfield. The Revs. Gary Albert and John Scheck will officiate. Music will be provided by Jolene Albert, organist, and William Allen, soloist.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Lynn and Jeff Krause, William and Charles Scherr, Gary Franke and Gerald Kloehn.

Burial will be in Hillside Lutheran Cemetery, Marshfield. Milirary rites will be provided by American Legion Post 54.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Wed. at Hansen’s Funeral Home and again at the church on Thur. from 10 a.m. until service time.

Eugene was born Dec. 12, 1916, in the town of Marshfield, to Eugene and Emma (Luepke) Hood. He attended Marshfield elementary schools and McKinley High School. He married Arrietta Allen Aug. 28, 1938, at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

After his education, Eugene began work for Koller’s Supermarket as a meat cutter and deliveryman. He then served in the military during World War II in the European Theater in the 188th Engineering Co., and served under Gen. Patton in the 3rd Armored Division.

Following his discharge, he returned to Marshfield and worked construction jobs in the area. He and his wife purchased a farm in the town of Marshfield in 1947.

In 1950 he began work at Consolidated Papers in Wisconsin Rapids, starting as a carpenter and advancing to foreman, then general foreman. In 1965, he was appointed construction superintendent of Consolidated’s engineering department. He retired in 1982, and continued to live on the farm until his death.

He was a member and past president of the Sno-Drifters Snowmobile Club, and was a member of the Marshlanders Good Sam Club, and Carpenter & Joiners Union 804 at Consolidated Papers.

He is survived by his wife, eight sisters, Emma Krause and Carol Davis, both of Janesville, Genevieve (Norman) Tauschek of Beloit, Edna (Art) Bliven of Hudson, Grace (Owen) Schraufnagel of Abbotsford, Jessie (Roy) Collins of Pittsville, Dorothy (Arnold) Leffel of Vancouver, Wash., and Nettie (George) Carter of Crete, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James Robin Hood, and a daughter, Rita Jean Hood, who both died in infancy; a brother, George Hood; and a sister, Edith Sat.rstrom.

Memorials may be designated to the family which will establish a memorial following the services.
