LaBelle, Marie (5 Aug. 1884 – 15 May 1981)

Mrs. Marie LaBelle, 96, formerly of Marshfield, died at 5:40 p.m. Fri. at Bethel Convalescent Center, Arpin. She was a patient there since Jan. 27, 1971.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tues. at St. John’s Catholic Church, the Rev. George C. Passehl officiating. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wesley are to provide music. Friends of Mrs. LaBelle will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call after 2:30 p.m. today and until service time Tues. at Rembs/Kundinger Chapel, where St. John’s Rosary Altar Society rosary will be at 3 p.m. today and St. John’s vigil service will be at 8 tonight.

The former Marie Lahr was born Aug. 5, 1884 in the town of Barton, Washington County, to Mr. and Mrs. Nick (Augusta Winkler) Lahr. She attended St. John’s Catholic Grade School and Washington High School there. On Oct. 10, 1907, she and Adolph LaBelle were married at St. John’s Catholic Church here. He died Aug. 1, 1940.

She worked for the government at Gulfport Air Force Base and Hospital in Gulfport, Miss., during World War II. She taught at the vocational school in Marshfield 30 years and also worked at Pinion & Cooper Cheese Factory until retiring at age 72.

She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, an honorary member of its Rosary Altar Society, and chairman of the Red Cross Knitting and Crocheting Club.

A daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Weber of Middleton, survives, along with two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
