Knox, Walter E. (1 June 1888 – 2 Jan. 1946)

 

Pittsville – Walter E. Knox, 87, section foreman for the Chicago-Milwaukee-St. Paul Railroad for the past 31 years, died at 3 o’clock this morning after a lingering illness.

 

The body will be taken to Eagle River for funeral services Sat. afternoon, and burial will take place at Sayner.

 

Mr. Knox was born at Becker, Minn., June 1, 1888, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Knox. He was a resident of Pittsville since July, 1944.

 

His first marriage was to Delia Touchette and took place at Becker, Minn.  Ten children were born to this union.  His wife and two children died.  On Sept. 2, 1939, he was married at Rhinelander to Mrs. Agnes Kleppe.

 

Surviving are five sons, Cpl. Charles Knox, with the Army Engineers Battalion in India; Pfc. Earl Knox, Dallas, Texas; Franklin Knox, seaman first class, Marshall Islands; Walter Knox, discharged in December and now living in Danville, Ill.; and David Knox, at home; four daughters, Mrs. Robert Bailey, Minocua; Mrs. William Coady, Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Shirley Pruitt, Madison; and Mrs. Sam Christianson, Pittsville; a stepson, Cpl. Louis Denk, Bowman Field, Ky.; and three stepdaughters, Loraine and June and Mrs. Siegfried Suchy, Pittsville.

 

Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Ed Touchette, Merrill.
