Siekert, Leonard R. (25 Apr. 1935 – 31 Oct. 2008)

WISCONSIN RAPIDS -- Leonard R. Siekert, of 3824 St. John's Road, Wisconsin Rapids, went to be with the Lord on Fri., Oct. 31, 2008, at his home, with much family support there.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Mon., Nov. 3, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 3805 St. John's Road, in the town of Sigel, with Pastor Douglas Schalow officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Leonard was born April 25, 1935, in the town of Cary, to Leonard J. and Margaret (Jacksland) Siekert. He graduated from Cary Bluff and Pittsville high schools. On Nov. 9, 1957, he married Joy Ehlert at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. They lived and raised their five children in the Wisconsin Rapids area. In October 1961, he was called to active duty with the Red Arrow Division of the National Guards during the Berlin Crisis, reporting to Fort Lewis, Wash., for most of a year.

His places of employment included Consolweld and Consolidated Papers Inc., retiring in 1994. (He always said it took him a while to get used to retirement ... about 10 minutes. He loved it.) He loved his family deeply. Some of his other interests were working in the woods, making wood, welding, camping with family and friends, fishing and gardening. He also was very interested in tractors; the older, the better. Leonard was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife; five children, Laurie (Cliff) Johnson of Spencer, Daniel (Keri) Siekert of Wisconsin Rapids, John (Dorothy) Siekert of De Pere, Paul (Tammy) Siekert of Plover, and Beth Kinnunen, also of Wisconsin Rapids; and one sister, Janet (Eli) Rosandich of Payson, Ariz. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Sarah, Rachel and Christopher Johnson, Katey and Megan Siekert, Ty Siekert, and Christian and Michaella Siekert; four stepgrandchildren; and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters-in-law, Sandra Ehlert, Doris Ehlert, and Dodi Ehlert; and a son-in-law, Roy Kinnunen.

Friends may call at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home, Wisconsin Rapids, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sun. Nov. 2, and at the church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Mon..

In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established in Leonard's name.

Leonard was a very special person of God's creation and we know he is in good hands now ... God's hands.
