Gene E. Keding, 70, of Auburndale died Fri., May 22, 2009, at the palliative care unit at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

Buchanan Funeral Home in Pittsville is handling arrangements.

AUBURNDALE -- Gene E. Keding, 70, of Auburndale, died Fri., May 22, 2009, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thur., May 28, at Wesley United Methodist Church, Marshfield. The Reverend Ruth Egerer will officiate.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Auburndale. Serving as pallbearers will be Joshua Keding, Taylor Keding, Logan Keding, Brent Gust, Matthew Woehrle and Chad Richardson.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wed. at Buchanan Funeral Home, Pittsville, and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thur. at United Methodist Church. American Legion Post No. 54 of Marshfield will conduct military rites.

He was born Feb. 27, 1939, in Blenker, to Melvin and Mary (Engmann) Keding. He married Thelma Lee Fleming on Dec. 27, 1957, in Fallbrook, Calif. She preceded him in death July 25, 2008. He attended Auburndale grade and high schools.

He went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 to 1958, and then worked as an independent contractor for more than 30 years. He served with the U.S. Navy Seabees from 1978 to 1982, and operated a bar in Auburndale from 1984 to 2009.

He enjoyed bowling, camping, playing cards and spending time with his cherished dog, Mocha. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Auburndale Lions, Auburndale Volunteer Fire Department, Elks Club of Marshfield and American Legion Post No. 54, Marshfield.

He's survived by his mother, Mary Keding; children, Colleen (Mark) Wilkie of Springbrook, Kevin Keding of Stratford, Konrad J. (Jan) Keding of Medford, Kurtis (Kelly) Keding of Mosinee and Colette Woehrle (Dave Thomas) of Marshfield; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brothers Ronald Keding of Marshfield, Jerry (Diane) Keding of Stratford, Larry (Sandy) Keding of Montevideo, Minn., Dean (Joan) Keding of Stratford, Leon (Gail) Keding of Marshfield, Duane (Jean) Keding of Roscoe, Ill., Myron (Kim) Keding of Spencer, Lenny Keding of Mauston, Keith Keding of Marshfield, Darwin Keding of Marshfield and Dennis Keding of Greeley, Colo.; sisters, Betty (Kenny) Spindler of LaSalle, Colo., Shirley Marvin of Marshfield and Patsy (Gerry) Bley of McPherson, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Keding, father Melvin Keding, brothers Virgil and Terry Keding and sister Lori Keding.
