Kohel, Robert B. (21 July 1927 - 4 Oct. 1996)

Robert B. Kohel, 69, of 506 S. Peach Ave. died at 7;40 p.m. Oct. 4, 1996, at St. Joseph’s Hosptial. He was admitted to the hospital on Sept. 29.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wed. at the First Presbyterian Church in Marshfield. The Rev. Janet E. Wolfe will officiate. Music will be provided by Carol Snelling, organist, for congregational singing.

Burial will be in Brooklawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in the town of Richfield in Wood County. Serving as pallbearers will be Steven W. Helmke, Toney Bookhart, Gerald Kohel, Sr., Gerald Kohel Jr., James Hansen and Mark Nelson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tues. at Rembs/Kundinger Chapel and again until 9 a.m. Wed. at the funeral chapel, then from 10 a.m. until service time Wed. at the church.

He was born July 21, 1927, in the town of Milladore, to Benedict and Mae (Luepke) Kohel. He married Mary N. Dickson on Sept. 6, 1954, in Pittsville.

Mr. Kohel was educated in St. Mary’s Parochial School in Auburndale and was a 1945 graduate of Auburndale High School. After his education, he served in the U.S. Air Force for six years and was stationed in Japan. After his military service, he began employment at Bauman Auto Co. and later for Weyerhaeuser Co. and Graham Mfg. Co. He retired because of ill health and continued to reside in Marshfield and assisted on his son-in-law’s farm in Stratford.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid reader, camper and had a special enjoyment of mechanics.

Mr. Kohel was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a former elder, deacon and member of the Session Board, and a Sun.School teacher. He was actively involved with Scout Troops 681 and 381 of the Presbyterian Church for many years, and was an active 4-H leader in the Lindsey area.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Kohel of Marshfield; four daughters, Elaine (Toney) Bookhart of Auburndale, Cindy Kohel of Wausau, Rhonda B. (Steven W.) Helmke of Stratford and Lisa Bilgrien of Marshfield, two sons, Michael Kohel of Vernal, Utah, and Kirk Kohel of Marshfield; two grandsons, William Helmke and Joseph Bilgrien; two sisters, Audrey (Ronald) Swik of Humble, Texas, and Margaret (Jack) Evans of New Braumiel, Texas; and five brothers, Gerald (Sharon) Kohel of Auburndale; David (Terry) Kohel, William (Annie) Kohel and John Kohel, all of Kenosha, and Louis Kohel of Mosinee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Richard and Gordon.

Memorials may be designated in Mr. Kohel’s name to the family as a memorial will be established later.
