Peterson, Barbara Q. (31 Jan. 1927 - 18 Apr. 2009)

Barbara Q. Peterson, 81, of the Manawa Community Nursing Center, Manawa, and formerly of Marshfield, died April 18, 2009.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Tues., April 21, 2009, at the Church of Intercession, Stevens Point, with the Rev. Jim Trainor officiating. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. Tues. until time of service at the church. Burial will take place in Forest Cemetery, Stevens Point. Memorials may be made to the church.

Barbara was born Jan. 31, 1927, to the late Howard and Lila (Rediman) Quirt in Ironwood, Mich. Soon after her birth, her family moved to Marshfield. She grew up there and attended the local schools. She finished high school at Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam. Barbara later attended Carleton University and graduated with a teaching degree in 1949.

She married Rodney Peterson on Aug. 26, 1950, in Marshfield.

Barbara work as a preschool teacher until the 1970s. She left teaching to focus on her family after the birth of her son. After her children had grown, Barbara began to teach part time until retiring. After her and her husband's retirement, they settled in various locations, including Stevens Point.

Barbara loved art and enjoyed painting, mosaics and photography. Barbara's passion for outdoor photography portrayed her love for nature. In her spare time, she liked to knit. Barbara also loved to travel and enjoyed visiting various destinations with her husband. She will always be remembered for her loving devotion toward family.

Survivors include husband Rodney of Manawa; son, Steven (Neika) of Tomball, Texas; daughter, Kristen (David) Crubaugh of Stevens Point; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
