Fred Seehafer was born near Berlin, Germany, on July 13, 1872. When he was six months of age his parents immigrated to the United States and settled on a farm near Reedsville in Manitowoc County, where he received his elementary and high school education. After being graduated from high school, Mr. Seehafer came to Marshfield in 1889 and learned the butcher trade, which he followed for several years. He discontinued that business to sell farm machinery and do cattle buying. Thirty years ago he erected a building at the corner of East Ninth Street and South Central Avenue in which he has since carried on his farm implement and hardware business.

Mr. Seehafer was elected a member of the city council in 1900 and served as alderman of the Fourth Ward for two years. He was again elected a council member in 1921 for a term of two years, and during that time served as chairman of the Board of Public Works, in addition to his other alderman duties. From 1891 to 1894 Mr. Seehafer was a member of Company A, Marshfield Unit of the Wis. National Guard.

He was married in Marshfield on July 11, 1894, to Miss Ida Wegner. Mr. and Mrs. Seehafer have four children, Mrs. Werner Pflugghoff of Medford; Miss Edith Seehafer, student nurse at Deaconess Hospital, Milwaukee; Eldor and Melvin Seehafer, this city.

In politics Mr. Seehafer is Republican. Fraternally he is associated with the Owls Equitable Fraternal Union and Modern Brotherhood of America. He is one of the organizers and chairman of the finance committee of Trinity English Lutheran Church and also belongs to the Wis. Implement Dealers Association. Fishing is Mr. Seehafer’s hobby.
