Grossbier, Valeria (31 May 1925 – 24 Mar. 2009)

LA CROSSE -- Sister Marian Grossbier, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, 83, died Tues., March 24, 2009, at Villa St. Joseph.

Sister Marian was born May 31, 1925, to Edward and Anna (Dillinger) Grossbier in Auburndale. She entered St. Rose Convent in 1942 and professed vows in 1946.

Sister Marian served her sisters as a homemaker in convent homes for five years before earning a degree in education. She ministered as a teacher in elementary schools in for 26 years, including 15 years in Wisconsin Rapids. After caring for her brother for two years and one year as librarian, Sister Marian completed her active ministry as a housekeeper until her retirement to the Villa in 2003.

Sister Marian is survived by her Franciscan community; her sisters Irene Lorbiecki, New Berlin, and Helen (Orville) Bornbach, Stratford; sister-in-laws, Mary Ann Grossbier, Brookfield, Florence Grossbier, Milwaukee, Mary Grossbier, Wisconsin Rapids, and Virginia (Charles) Ponczoch, Stratford; brother-in-law, William (Eileen) Scholzen, Wisconsin Rapids; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Aloysius, Alexander, Peter and Paul; and her sisters, Virginia and Theresa.

Friends may call after 3:15 p.m. today when her body will be brought to St. Rose Convent, La Crosse. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. in Mary of the Angels Chapel.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Fri., March 27, in Mary of the Angels Chapel. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, La Crosse.

Dickinson Family Funeral Homes is assisting with the arrangements.
