Obit: Peck, Vernon U. (1856? – 1902)

(1856? – 22 Jan. 1902) V.U. Peck Dead Vernon U. Peck, head filer of the Upham Manufacturing company and one of the prominent early residents of Marshfield, died at the home of his sister in Mosinee on Wed. evening of consumption. Mr. Peck has been in a precarious condition for over a year and recently went to Mosinee to rest and visit his father who is also at that place. The funeral will take place at Stevens Point on Sat.and a number of friends of the deceased from this city will attend. Mr. Peck has resided in this city almost continuously for the past twenty years, coming here from Necedah. He was an expert filer and served the Upham company in that capacity nearly all of the time that he lived here. He was married and had a happy home prior to 1896 when his wife died. He was about forty years of age at the time of his death. ----Source: Marshfield News (Wood Co., Wis.) 30 Jan 1902 page 1 column 5 Vern Peck Laid at Rest Vernon U. Peck, whose critical illness was noted in last week's News, passed away on the evening of the 22nd inst. at the home of his sister in Mosinee. Death was due primarily due to tuberculosis of the bowels. He was sick in bed but two weeks although gradually failing in health for a long time. Deceased had been a resident of Marshfield since 1882; during all of which time he was employed as head filer at the Upham Mfg. Co., and was known to be an expert in his line. He was a member of Knights of Pythias Lodge No. 82 of this city, several of whom attended the funeral which took place on Fri. afternoon at Stevens Point from the train. Among those from Marshfield who paid tribute to the memory of Mr. Peck by joining in the funeral cortege were: Mr. and Mrs. Geo. W. Upham, E. L. Reese, F. A. Cady, W. H. Kamps, Geo. W. Wagner, H. L. Brooks, Henry Horn, Jos. Butler and Fred Schroeder. Deceased was forty-five years of age and is survived by a father and two sisters. Re: Obit: Peck, Vernon U. (1856? – 1902)
