Harter, Raymond A. (11 May 1900 – 3 Feb. 1987)

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Fri. at St. John’s Catholic Church for Raymond A. Harter, 86, of 612 Western St., who died at 11:25 p.m. Tues. at St. Joseph’s Hospital Hospice Care Unit, where he was admitted Jan. 23.

The Rev. Leonard G. Kaiser will officiate. Helen Brinkmann will be the organist for St. John’s Church Choir. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Auburndale.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at Rembs/Kundinger Chapel, and on Fri. prior to services. The Knights of Columbus will hold a rosary service at 7:30 tonight followed by the parish prayer service at 7:45, both at the funeral chapel.

He was born May 11, 1900, in Guttenburg, Iowa, to John and Elizabeth Harter. He attended St. Mary’s Parochial School, Guttenburg. He moved with his parents to the Rozellville area, where they farmed.

He married Cecelia Pongratz June 11, 1928, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Auburndale. She died Aug. 22, 1943. His second marriage was to Ann Berg in 1946 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Marshfield. She survives. He owned and operated the East Auburndale Cheese Factory from 1937 until his retirement in 1962. His son, John, then purchased the business and operated it until 1975. They moved to their present address in 1964.

He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Holy Name Society, and the United Commercial Travelers.

Surviving, besides his wife, are two sons, John, Wausau, and James, Green Bay; three brothers, Albert, Marshfield, Herbert, Menomonee Falls, and Clarence, West Allis; four sisters, Mrs. Olive Eilers, Mrs. Roman (Irene) Kohlbeck, and Mrs. Edward (Dorothy) Sudmeier, all of Marshfield, and Mrs. Milton (Helen) Bates, Waukesha; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister and his parents.
