(11 May 1925 – 19 Mar. 2009) WISCONSIN RAPIDS -- Mae J. Kelnhofer, 83, of 220 10th Ave. N., Wisconsin Rapids died Thur., March 19, 2009, at the Wisconsin Rapids Care Center. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Sat. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Wisconsin Rapids. The Rev. James Altman will officiate. Burial will be in St. Kilian's Catholic Cemetery, Blenker. For visitation, friends may call at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids on Sat. from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Mae was born May 11, 1925, in the town of Holway, Taylor County, to George and Minnie (Larson) Dunkel. She married George F. Kelnhofer on June 30, 1946, in Blenker. He died March 14, 1994. Mae was employed at Consolidated Papers Inc. for 23 years, retiring on July 31, 1986, as a word processor. She was a longtime member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, loved to play cards, enjoyed sewing and knitting, going to the Senior Center and loved her dogs, Tiffany and Mitzi. Mae is survived by her daughter, Joan (Roger) Spice of Nekoosa; three grandchildren, Amy (Mike) Birling of Morrisville, N.C., Lori (Dave) Hansen of Sun.rairie and Ryan (Cassie) Spice of Farmington, Minn.; six great-grandchildren, Ty and Alec Birling, Brooklyn, Ethan and Luke Hansen and Mackenzie Spice. Mae is also survived by brother, Vernon (Sandra) Dunkel of Rib Lake; and four sisters, Alva Keith of Wisconsin Rapids, Marlene (Stanley) Kulczyski of Grafton, Judy Dunkel of Rib Lake and Carol Zimdars of Port Washington. Mae was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; son, Jimmie; sister, Marjorie; and two brothers, Donald Dunkel and Kenneth Dunkel. Memorials can be given to St. Lawrence Catholic Church or to Assumption High School. Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids is handling all arrangements.
