Obit: Kohel, James D. (1934 – 2003)

(8 June 1934 – 9 May 2003) SPOKANE Graveside service for James D. "Jim" Kohel, 68, will be held Tues. at 2 p.m. at Fairmont Memorial Cemetery. Memorial service will be at 4 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge, 315 E. Francis. Mr. Kohel, who was born in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., died May 9. He had lived in the Spokane area since 1945. He served in the Marine Corps from 1952 to 1956 and served in the Korean War. After he returned to Spokane, he went to work at the Cenex Corp. as a computer programmer for 18 years. During this time he built his home at Long Lake. Mr. Kohel later was employed by the Whitman County Sheriff's Department in Colfax. He moved to Spokane after his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and spent many years researching the Kohel family genealogy in the United States and Austria back to the early 17th century. He completed his research in 2001, when he had the family tree published. Mr. Kohel was a member of the Eagles Lodge, Disabled American Veterans, the National Rifle Association, and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include three daughters Kristen Palmer, Robin Ray and Lisa Hennessy, all of Spokane; a son, Robert Drose of California; a brother, Kenneth Kohel of Spokane; three sisters, Marjorie Luiten of Spokane, Eileen Wohlwend Seattle and Marilyn Marcussen of Benicia, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren. ***Birth & Death dates supplied by the family.
