(3 June 1919 – 13 Feb. 2009) Sylvia A. Nelson, 89, of Marshfield died Fri. morning, Feb. 13, 2009, at the Marshfield Care Center under the care of Ministry Home Hospice Care. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Mon., Feb. 16, 2009, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Rev. Don Meuret officiating. Susanne Golden will be the organist along with Michael Gonering as the vocalist. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery with Ben and Nathan Skifton, Austin Nelson, Donald Oelke, James Wiedman and Wally Henseler serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sun. at Rembs' Funeral Home (300 S. Oak Ave. - Marshfield, WI) and again Mon. at the church from 10:30 a.m. until service time. There will be a combined rosary service at 6:30 p.m. Sun. at the funeral home by the Parish and Parish Council of Catholic Women. Sylvia was born June 3, 1919, in Bakerville to Frank and Gertrude (Michels) Schumacher. She was united in marriage to Norman J. Nelson on Aug. 4, 1936, in Bakerville. Following the Nelsons' marriage, they farmed in Clark County until 1952. Sylvia had a career as seamstress in various Marshfield businesses, including years as a bridal seamstress at Johnson Hills. She retired from the laundry/sewing department at Saint Joseph's Hospital. She is survived by her son, Delbert (Darlene) Nelson of Nekoosa; and a daughter, Jullien (Butch) Kille of Fremont, Calif.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sisters, Loretta (Don) Heiting and Geraldine Steinwagner, and a sister-in-law, Mildred Wiedman, all of Marshfield. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, on Sept. 22, 2000; an infant son; a brother, James Schumacher; sister, Isabelle Oelke; three half-brothers, Tony, Al and Louie Schumacher; four half-sisters, Mary Henseler, Catherine Huff, Afra Guden and Margaret Holmes. Memorials may be given to either Ministry Home Hospice Care or for Alzheimer's dementia research.
