Bio: Hiles, George (1881) Contact: Janet Schwarze ----Surnames: Hiles ----Source: History of Northern Wis. (Wood County, Wis.) 1881, page 1216 GEORGE HILES, lumberman, Dexterville, was born in Oakland Co., Mich., in 1831. Came to Wis. in 1850, and settled in Baraboo. His first work was with Wood & Moore, for $15 per month, near Baraboo. He then removed to Dexterville, Wood Co., where he has since resided, following the lumber business. He has been Chairman of the town of Dexter for twenty years; is the present Chairman of the County Board of Supervisors. Was elected to the State Legislature in 1866. He has endured the hardships of an early pioneer life. By sobriety, honesty and fair dealing, he is now awarded with sufficient competency to carry himself and family comfortably through life. Has two sons and one daughter — James K. P., of Dexterville; Frank P., at Taylor, Jackson Co., Wis., and Phoebe, a widow.
