Jepson, Herbert C. (16 July 1921 – 20 Nov. 2008)

CITY POINT -- Herbert C. Jepson Sr., 87, of City Point, died Thur., Nov. 20, 2008, at the Bethel Center in Arpin.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tues., Nov. 25, 2008, at Martyrs Chapel Catholic Church, City Point. Father Jude Ndugbu and Father Donald Berg will officiate. Burial will take place in Spaulding Catholic Cemetery, City Point. Serving as pallbearers will be Clint Jepson, Adam Binder, Tom Bischel, David Dix, David Grutzik, and Eugene Jepsen and honorary pallbearers, Gerald Volz, and James Peterson. Herbert Jepson Sr. was born July 16, 1921, in City Point, the son of Christian and Dora (Remington) Jepson. He attended school in City Point. From 1943 to 1944, he was enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was given an honorable discharge when his father became ill, and came home to operate the family cranberry marsh. On Nov. 16, 1946, he married Constance Grutzik at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Wisconsin Rapids. They had five children.

For about 20 years, he was a dairy farmer and sphagnum moss producer. The past 44 years he and his wife had been operating the Herb Jepson Cranberry Marsh located near City Point. Besides his interest in cranberries, Herbert's hobbies were raising Belgian horses, raising beef cattle and hunting. He also enjoyed attending any recreational events where Belgian horses could be found, such as horse pulls, horse sales or plowing contests. During his lifetime, he had been town chairman and town supervisor for several years in the town of Hiles. His sons, Daniel Jepson and Herbert Jepson Jr., now are operating the cranberry marsh.

Herbert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Constance Jepson; his children, Mary (Curt) Dittbrenner, Herbert (Shirley) Jepson, Daniel Jepson, Jane (Jerry) Wegner, and Dorene (Paul) Binder. He also is survived by 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Francis Jepsen; and a sister, Anna (Simon) Kulinich. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wilbur Jepson; and a sister-in-law, Carol Jepsen.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Bethel Center for their wonderful care.

God took the strength of a mountain,

The comforting arm of night,

The wisdom of the ages,

The power of the eagle's flight,

Then God combined these qualities,

There was nothing more to add.

His masterpiece was now complete,
