Christ Dorpat Is Found Dead

Rites Pending for Pioneer Resident

Christ Dorpat, 84, a resident here since 1891, was found dead in bed at noon today at his home at 613 S. Cherry Ave., where his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Beseler, also reside.

The body is at the Hansen Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Mr. Dorpat was born Jan 27, 1869, at Boscobel, Grant County. He received his education in the schools of Illinois and Missouri and returned when he was 19 years old to work at Butternut.

His marriage to Augusta Wegner of Butternut took place there May 28, 1891, with the former’s brother, the late Rev. Lawrence Dorpat, as officiant. Immediately after their marriage they came to Marshfield, where Mr. Dorpat accepted a position in the Upham Manufacturing Co. store. From 1900 to 1901 he served as city treasurer of Marshfield and for five years was also a member of the Marshfield Fire Department.

For several years he was employed as a salesman in various stores, and at one time was employed in that capacity at the Johnson-Hill store in Wisconsin Rapids.

Survivors include his wife and three daughters, Mrs. Roy Kruck, Nekoosa, Mrs. William Binnebose, Wisconsin Rapids, and Mrs. Arnold Beseler.

Funeral services for Christ Dorpat, 84, who died Thur. morning, will be held at 2 p.m. Sat.in the Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. G.M. Krueger will officiate and burial will be made in Hillside Cemetery.

The body is residing at the Hansen Funeral Home. At noon Sat.it will be taken to the church.

Mr. Dorpat, who resided at 613 S. Cherry Ave., was a resident of the city since 1891, and served as the first city treasurer in the present building.

Survivors include his wife, three daughters, Mrs. M. R. (Nora) Kruck, Manitowoc, Mrs. William (Erna) Binnebose, Wisconsin Rapids, and Mrs. Arnold (Helen) Beseler, Marshfield; eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

A daughter, two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Dorpat Rites

Funeral services for Crist Dorpat, 84, who died Thur. morning, were held at 2 p.m. Sat.in the Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. G. M. Kreuger officiated and burial was made in the Hillside Cemetery.

Pallbearers included William Carus, Emil Hamn, Ted Wendt, Clarence Meyer, William Kuehl, and George Biechler.

Mr. Earl Knorr, Mrs. Arnold Korth, and Mrs. George Pingel sang “Harre Meine Seele” and “For Me to Live is Jesus” with George Pingel as accompanist at the organ.

Out-of-town relatives and friends at the services were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kruck, Manitowoc; Mr. and Mrs. William Binnebose Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. William Binnebose Jr., Wisconsin Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kegler and daughters and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kegler, Tomah; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clemmons, Portage; Mrs. William Wegner, Mr. and Mrs. Arno Wegner and Mr. and Mrs. George Wegner and son, Butternut; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Alm and Mrs. Theresa Shley, Waukesha, and Mrs. Francis Peterson, and Mrs. Clarence Hoffman, Two Rivers.
