Doescher, LaVern (10 Oct. 1928 – 20 Dec. 2008)

LaVern Doescher, 80, of 9659 Beppler Road, Nekoosa, died Sat. Dec. 20, 2008, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Fri., at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Nekoosa. Pastor Carl Kummer will officiate. Visitation will be at the church Fri. from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home is assisting the family.

LaVern was born Oct. 10, 1928, in Junction City, to Charles and Rose (Tessmer) Doescher. He married Elizabeth Alexander on May 25, 1951, in Washington, D.C.

LaVern was employed at Haessly Trucking and Excavating as a block machine operator for 36 years, retiring in 1990. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1948 to 1954 and was a member of VFW Post No. 5960 in Nekoosa.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; one son, Duane (Darla) Doescher of Nekoosa; two daughters, Carol (Lane) Solverud of Pittsville and Christina (Don) Foley of Hortonville; seven grandchildren Carl (Jolene) Solverud of Holmen, Laura Solverud of Marshfield, Brian Foley of Hortonville, Kevin Foley of Milwaukee, Darren Doescher of Port Edwards, Shalee and Ashley Doescher of Nekoosa; two great-grandchildren, Brett Best and Marley Harper of Nekoosa; four brothers, Leroy (Marlene) Doescher of Junction City, Harold Doescher of Wisconsin Rapids, Ronald (Marcie) Doescher of Wisconsin Rapids and Ellard Doescher of Tomah; two sisters, Janice Thomas of Wisconsin Rapids and Janet Marmsolar of Eau Claire; two sisters-in-law, Delores Doescher of Wisconsin Rapids and Iola Doescher of Wausau and many nieces, nephews and his loving and protective dog, Abby.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law.

LaVern will be fondly remembered for his love of baking bread and rolls for friends and family. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger days and loved to garden. His appreciation of a good joke showed what a wonderful sense of humor he possessed.
