Schulte, 91, of Marshfield passed away at his home Tues., Jan. 6, 2009, after a brave battle with prostate cancer. His death came gently and without pain. Leo met his Lord with characteristic joy and faith. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sun. Jan. 11, 2009, with a one-hour visitation prior to service, at Hansen Schilling Funeral Home (200 W. 3rd St., Marshfield, Wis.) in Marshfield. Leo Schulte was born Dec. 24, 1917, to Alex and Margaret Schulte. Like a Christmas gift, he was received into a family of seven brothers and two sisters. He was baptized at Sacred Heart Church, graduated from McKinley High School and attended UW-Madison. Leo returned to Marshfield and purchased the local IGA. Leo owned and operated Schulte's IGA grocery store on Marshfield's northside for 25 years. Before retiring, Leo decided to take on a new adventure: he became supervisor for Pinkerton Security in 1978 and managed several businesses in Marshfield and Medford. In the 1990s, Leo also was a realtor for Century21. Myrtle and Leo never really retired. They have been actively involved in child foster care and the Special Olympics for 30 plus years. Myrtle and Leo devoted their lives to the needs of children and the handicapped. Leo married Myrtle Kennedy in 1941 and they had four children: Jeff, Greg, Pat and Susan. He is survived by his children, his wife Myrtle, and his sister Eileen (Ralph) Rothstein of Rockford, Ill.; and three brothers, Urban of Aiken, S.C., James (Victoria) of Austin, Minn., and Fr. Lyle of Junction City; five grandchildren, Kris and Jason Schulte, Krystal Schulte, and Tim and Lindsey Weister; five great-grandchildren, Heather and Rachel (Eric and Cheryl Schulte), Eric and Oden (Jason and Tammy Schulte), and Kaya (Kris Schulte); one great-great-grandchild, Savana Schulte. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Eric Schulte, and four brothers and one sister, Clarence, Morris, Father Oz, Alex Jr. and Margaret (Peggy). Leo's hobbies were hunting with his two sons and fishing Sun.afternoons with the family. He is a 60-year member of the Knights of Columbus. Leo will be missed by his family, friends, and Pepper, his miniature schnauzer. May the Lord love him forever. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Ministry Health Home Hospice for their care and support.
