Edward M. Grassl, 92, of Marshfield, died Thur., Jan. 15, 2009, at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wed., Jan. 21, 2009, at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield. The visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tues. at Rembs' Funeral Home (300 S. Oak Ave. - Marshfield, WI) and Wed. from 9:30 a.m. until service time at St. John's Catholic Church. A combined St. John's Parish and Knights of Columbus Rosary Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tues. at the funeral home.

Edward M. Grassl, 92, Marshfield, died Thur., Jan. 15, 2009, at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wed., Jan. 21, 2009, at St. John's Catholic Church, Marshfield. A brother, the Rev. Joseph Grassl, will officiate and Suzanne Golden will be organist for St. John's Church Funeral Choir. Burial will take place in St. Kilian's Cemetery in Blenker and grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

The visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tues. at Rembs' Funeral Home (300 S. Oak Ave. - Marshfield, WI) and from 9:30 a.m. Wed. until service time at St. John's Catholic Church. A combined St. John's Parish and Knights of Columbus Rosary Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tues. at the funeral home.

Mr. Grassl was born June 4, 1916, in the town of Milladore, the son of Ignatz and Theresa (Hoffman) Grassl. He received his education at St. Kilian's Parochial School, Blenker. He married Margaret M. Kohlbeck on Sept. 18, 1945, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hewitt with Edward's brother, the Rev. Francis Grassl officiating. The Grassls celebrated their 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries in 1996 and 2006.

Prior to his marriage, he worked for the Wisconsin Central Railroad and was engaged in construction and custom work. He farmed in the town of Milladore until retiring in 1981 and then moved to Marshfield. He remained active with logging for many years until his illness. He enjoyed card playing and listening to polka music. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus John Eisen Council #1799.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Marshfield, and six children, Alfred, Bernard, Charles "Carly" and David Grassl, all of Milladore, Donna Grassl of Marshfield and Theresa (Danny) Esser of Lindsey. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Brian (Heather) Grassl, Allen (Laura) Grassl, Chris Grassl, Angela (Andrew) VanAsten, Cody Esser and Coltin Esser and by five great-grandchildren, Morgan, Mason, Carter, Jedd and Jordan Grassl. He is further survived by his brother, the Rev. Joseph Grassl of Knowlton, a sister, Margaret Tuttle of Speedway, Ind., and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, three sisters and seven brothers.
