Grace was born Dec. 20, 1950, in the town of West Bend to Grace and Gregor Flasch. She attended Milwaukee Lutheran High School. Following graduation, she enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where she received a degree in elementary education. As an entering freshman she found what was to be her one true love, friend and soul mate on a date with Greg on Sept. 26, 1969.

Inseparable thereafter, they were verbally engaged April 12, 1970, and married on June 3, 1972. With a fourth year internship in Greenwood and a final semester in Stevens Point, Greg and Grace decided to spend a year in Marshfield. Greg began work at the Marshfield Medical Research Foundation in Sept. 1972. During the year, plans changed; Marshfield would be a wonderful place to live, work and raise a family.

In 1973, Grace was hired to teach third grade at Washington Elementary School, where she developed lifelong friendships and excelled as an educator. She loved her students and after a few years Greg and Grace decided to begin a family. Eric was born July 6, 1979 and Rebecca on Jul. 17, 1981. Grace's growing family enjoyed her love and nurturing on a full time basis as she put her career on hold for seven years. When the kids entered school, Grace followed. After one year at Lincoln Elementary, she returned to Washington for four years and then on to Grant Elementary, where she finished her career. So many new friends and colleagues, so many young lives touched by her love of learning.

She enjoyed every minute with her children and even got to know them as students. The fairy tale ended in August 1999 with the diagnosis of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension. But nobody told Grace. In the ensuing nine years, her will to live, love and teach inspired everyone who came to know her. She faced death with the love of friends and family and without fear. Grace died peacefully in the palliative care unit of Saint Joseph's Hospital on Jan. 17, 2009. She will be missed by many.

She is survived by her husband, Greg and their children, Eric (Erin) Nycz of Manitowoc and Rebecca Nycz of Marshfield. She also survived by her mother, Grace Flasch of Marshfield, and two brothers, Calvin (Boni) Flasch and Eugene (Mary) Biegler, and a sister-in-law, Sandra Flasch, all of West Bend. She is further survived by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joan and Daniel Nycz of New Berlin and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law and their spouses, Sandee and Dave Burman of Milwaukie, Oregon and Susan Nycz of Glendale and many other family and friends.

She was predeceased by her father, Gregor Flasch, a brother, Carl Flasch, a Godchild, Renee, her maternal grandparents, Carl and Ella Biegler and paternal grandparents, Kilian and Gertrude Flasch.

For all of those who prayer for and helped during her many trials, her family thanks you.

In lieu of flowers, Grace wished to direct memorials to the Marshfield Community Foundation, Washington School Designated Trail Fund, or Youthnet in care of Marshfield Clinic.
