The Heritage of the Mikolainis Family of Thorp, WI

MARTYNAS (MARTIN) MICKOLAINIS

 

Mr. and Mrs. Martynas (Martin) Mikolainis with his Mother, Agota Mikolaiene.  Martin's Father's name was Jonas.

 

 Martymas (Martin) Mikolainis was born November 12, 1840, in Lithuania and was Married twice. His first wife, aieva Kumetaite bore him the following children: Feliksas (Felix), Petras (Peter), Jonas (John), Maryona (Mary) and Juosappas (Joe).

 

Maryona was born May 25, 1877. Juosappas (Joe) was born June 16, lBe2 and died in their early 20's. (It should be noted here that Maryona came to the United States in 1900 with a relative and died of tuberculosis on Felix's farm near Thorp, Wisconsin, June 2, 1901 (Certificate) and was buried at Sterling Cemetery or Lombard Cemetery like some people called it. In the town of Withee. No other information is available as of 7/3/1988.

 

Martin remarried after the death of Jieva. From his second marriage came a son, Stasys (Stanley). Martin's 2nd wife's name is Jeva (Eva) Shmuidiene. Stanley had eight children. Vitalija, Monika, Juozas, Salomeia, Ariunas, Kestutis, Petras, and Mindaugus. Three of Stanley's children died in infancy. Information on Stanley, children was received in August of 1990 and is listed in the Genealogy Book. (which is available at the Thorp, WI Area Museum).

Martynas (Martin) Mikolainis and his 2nd wife, Jeva (Eva) Shmuidiene Jiemelyte with their son, Stasys (Stanley) when he was about 3 or 4 yrs. old.

 

Martin was a mayor of a town in Lithuania. a Farmer. On a family picture, he is shown family belt. Martin also was wearing a special family belt.

Jonas (John Sr.)

 

Peter, John, and Felix migrated to the United States around 1886. All three brothers were born in Ciziskes, county of Vilkaviskis, Lithuania. Stasys (Stanley) Mikolainis did not migrate to the United States but had a farm near Vistytis Lake near the town of Vilkaviskis. It was learned that Stanley lost his farm to the Russian Government in 1950, He died in 1985.
