New Librarian

Julie Schoenike began her official role as Thorp’s new librarian on Monday, September 10, 2007.

Originally from the Kaukauna, WI area, she attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduated in 2002 with a degree in landscape architecture. After working four years in Chicago as a landscape designer she moved to the Chippewa Falls area, where she currently resides with her fiancé, Ryan Belougny and cat, Lily.  Their move to this area is due to Ryan’s endeavor in obtaining a local business.  When the librarian position came available it was the perfect opportunity for Julie.  She says, “There are a lot more opportunities in the Chippewa Falls/Eau Claire area but I chose Thorp as I like the library and the small town atmosphere.”  She looks forward to their move to the Thorp area. Although Julie is new to the library profession she states that she does have the credits required for librarian certification and explains that this is why they offered her the position.  Over the next four years she will need to take further education courses to maintain her certification.

As if pursuing a new career isn’t enough to take on, Julie has also been extremely busy planning her September 29th wedding to Ryan and also preparing for the inception of his business.  Julie’s hobbies include reading, being outdoors, running and walking, just to name a few.  Her dad was an avid sailor and she did a lot of sailing while growing up but not so much anymore.  In 2006 and 2007, Ryan’s last year of graduate school, she had the opportunity to travel to Maine, Tennessee and North Carolina as he performed his residency requirements.  Julie concludes, “I have a lot to learn but I am excited to be here and would like to meet everyone.”

We welcome Julie to Thorp and wish her the best as the new librarian and congratulate her on her upcoming marriage.
