Come and See
for Yourself

Thorp Public Library Director Julie Beloungy welcomes everyone to come and “check out” all that the public library has to offer to Thorp area residents.  She and her staff are always happy to answer any questions you may have and to assist you.

If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to read more, learn a hobby, or just relax more, the Thorp Public Library can help.  From the latest books on the New York Times best seller’s list to topics ranging from astronomy to zoology, there is sure to be a book that can help you reach your goal.  The library also carries a variety of the latest movie releases and television series that are available for a two week checkout.  If the particular book or movie you’re looking for isn’t at the library, chances are they can request it from one of the other 24 libraries in the Wisconsin Valley Library System (WVLS).

Maybe you’re looking to try a new author or find a children’s book that will get even your 14-year-old reading.  The Thorp Public Library can help with that as well.  NoveList is a database of over 143,000 fiction books that allows you to search for fiction titles by your favorite author, or find a new author that fits the type of book that you most enjoy.  If possible, it’s best to just log on and try it out for yourself so that you can see all that NoveList has to offer in expanding your reading experience.  If you already have a library card, you don’t even hve to come to the library to access this great resource.  From your own computer type http://wvls.lib.wi.us/Databases/ElectronicDatabase.html to find this database along with all other resources that Thorp Public Library and WVLS provides.  If you need a library card, or you have any other questions, the library staff invites you to contact the library at any time.

 Other News at the Library

The Committee for Clark County Dairy Promotion has set up a display for only a limited time.  With information about local dairy farms and cheese producers, along with free brochures and recipes, there is a lot to learn about this important economic resource in Clark County. Did you know: Clark County leads Wisconsin in dairy production and is one of the top 25 counties nationally?  Stop in the library to find out more.

Thorp Public Library Story hour will begin again!  The library staff invites kids of all ages to attend Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. starting, Tuesday, March 4, 2008.  With a story or two and a kid-friendly craft to follow, story hour lasts 30-45 minutes, and they ask that parents either please wit at the library or make arrangements to pick up their children immediately following.  Story Hour will run for eight weeks with Tuesday, April 22, 2008 being the last session.  Make sure to watch for information regarding the start of the Summer Library Program!

Director Julie Beloungy, and Assistant Librarian, April Gentz, are always available with questions or concerns at the Thorp Public Library at 715-669-5953 and look forward to seeing you in 2008.
