In April, the Thorp Dairy Days Committee sent out a letter to local businesses, challenging them to donate $100 to the Camo Quilt project through the Thorp American Legion Auxiliary and the Thorp Dairy Days Committee, but for one local business, $100 didn’t seem to be enough.  United FCS, member of the national Farm Credit System, has been supporting agriculture and rural communities for over 93 years, and the Camo Quilt Project seemed like a perfect opportunity to extend their service to the servicemen who are in Iraq and Afghanistan.

At a staff meeting at United FCS, the employees looked over the letter sent out by the June Dairy Days Committee soon after completing a “gift box” project for America’s troops where they filled 25 boxes with assorted goods like razors, phone cards, and many other useful items. Still with some money left over from the gift boxes, the staff at United FCS decided to exceed the challenge and donate $300 to the Camo Quilt Project.  With each quilt’s cost to be approximately $20, United FCS gave 15 soldiers the chance to receive one of these homemade camo quilts.
