100 Years Ago (1906)

W. A. Henke, son of August Henke of the Town of Worden, who graduated from the Illinois Medical College as a full-fledged MD in June, went to Tomah, WI where he will locate permanently for the practice of his profession.

Chas. W. Wolf made application for pharmacist license and upon motion, same was granted.

75 Years Ago (1931)

Melvin Boardman and August Velcheck have leased the United Super Service Station on Highway 29 in the village from the Royal Oil Co.

With “Stubby” Gerhardt back on the mound pitching a great game of ball, Thorp had no trouble in avenging their previous defeat by downing Boyd 7-2.

Phonograph records, two records 25¢, gum drops 9¢, men’s union suits 49¢.

Roger Creek and Townline – Thirty-four pupils have been enrolled so far, in the Roger Creek School, which is seven more than were enrolled last year.

Adv: – You can be young at sixty or old at twenty. It’s all a matter taking care of your health. If you feel run down and have no pep, take Fellows Syrup.

50 Years Ago (1956)

Among more than 40 girls who will represent 20 area schools at Eau Claire’s Sixth Annual Fall Modeling Contest will be Elaine Fortek and Jean Mattes of Thorp High School.

Thorp had its street dedication and it was done in the traditional style in which our fair city is noted. Speakers, dancing, hot dogs, loud speakers, dignitaries, band selections, etc. all went into making the affair a glorious one.

Mattes Livestock Market owners, again cordially invite their many friends and satisfied customers to join with them in celebrating this, their 19th year in the sale business.

The Thorp Cards and Abbotsford clashed in Cloverbelt play-off final. Abbotsford came from behind to defeat the Cards 4 to 2 to tie the play-off series at a game a-piece.

25 Years Ago (1981)

Clarence Ruff, Thorp Housing Authority executive director, broke ground for a 10-apartment addition to Morgan Plaza, September 3.

Francis “Deacon” Hedler, 55, has retired as a U. S. Postal Service letter carrier effective Sept. 4.

The new ambulance purchased by the Thorp Area Ambulance District arrived in Thorp, September 1.

Maude Pierson, formerly of Thorp, celebrated her 102nd birthday.

10 Years Ago (1996)

Joshua Korn attained the rank of Eagle Scout after an intensive Eagle Board of Review that was held on May 8, 1996.
