100 Years Ago (1906)

The Farmers Telephone Co. is extending their line from Wolter’s Corners to Greenwood by the way of the Braun settlement. They are also putting in a few side lines.

H.E. Howard purchased N. L. Butler’s barber shop outfit last week and closed the shop.

Melvin Nye and Geo. Peterson returned from a land looking expedition in Montana.

The Hotel Maine at Stanley was partly destroyed by fire yesterday the blaze starting from a defective flue.

Reseburg Ramblings – John Grabowski sold his team to Bert Goff receiving $380 for same.

Don’t fail to attend the musical treat to be given at the Thorp Opera House on Nov. 3rd by the famous Canadian Concert Co. They always please.

75 Years Ago (1931)

The Harycki “Riteway Inn” was held up about 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday of last week. Joe Pettet who is on night duty at the place was confronted by two men one with a rifle the other with a revolver.

Fresh Salmon Steak 28˘ lb. Fresh, Raw Shrimp 30˘lb., Pork Chops 15˘ lb.

Jos. Morgan is erecting a building adjoining the Thorp Meat Market, to be used for restaurant purposes.

George Vandehey purchased the old priest’s residence at St. Bernard’s Church recently and will raze the same and use the lumber for other purposes.

50 Years Ago (1956)

Louis Pagel, who for the past two years has operated a tavern on North Broadway, has sold his stock fixtures and building to Louis Kiraly of rural Stanley.

Fire danger remains high in the forest area of the county after nearly two months of continued lack of moisture.

Francis J. Conway, Emil E. Kostner, Clara E. Gruszynski and Ernest Stauss will attend the 1956 Convention of the American Finance Conference in New York City on November 8th and 9th.

25 Years Ago (1981)

The final chapter of the chemical spill east of Thorp has finally been written, and no sequels are expected.

Property taxes in the Thorp School District will increase above and beyond the 9.93 percent increase approved at the July annual meeting by district electors.
