100 Years Ago (1907)

Stanley Sunbeams – W. H. Lynn has something new in the vehicle line called an automoter, which is simply an ordinary buggy with a motor attached. – Nick Patrick’s residence on the northern limit of the city caught fire from a defective flue on the 25th inst. and was totally.

The Village of Withee has voted to borrow about $7,000 for putting in a system of waterworks.

The long delayed spring has caused a scarcity of hay in this neighborhood with the result that all old hay will be used up clean.

75 Years Ago (1932)

Mr. Joel Johnson, pharmacist, of Owen, is again employed at Wolf’s Drug Store.

Breezy Hill Cheese Factory Neighborhood – Fire destroyed the Bill Jacobs home at midnight Sunday night.  A few household goods were saved. – Farmers are busy in this neighborhood sowing grain and peas.

Wild Cherry Neighborhood – Jos. Okonski’s barn was destroyed by fire Thursday evening.

County Line and ‘Round News – Mr. Jos. Rezino had the misfortune of losing his barn and machinery, which was destroyed by fire one day last week. - Mr. J. Schultz had the misfortune of losing his house which was destroyed by fire on Wednesday afternoon.

50 Years Ago (1957)

Diane Zaborowski, 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Zaborowski of Thorp, was named a region 11 finalist in the Alice in Dairyland Princess Contest.

Neil Broren, 19, of Thorp, died enroute to the Stanley Memorial Hospital, of head injuries sustained in a car accident.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Herman, who were married at St. Hedwig’s Church on April 27, 1907 by Rev. Francis Xavier Pudlo, celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary beginning with a Mass at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.

25 Years Ago (1982)

The body of Terry E. Cole, 45, was found at his home in Withee Sunday evening, May 2 by his wife.  Apparently Mr. Cole had been working on the television antenna and fell approximately forty feet, landing on the cement below.

A new business was opened in Thorp on Monday, May 3, under the name of Kasey’s Beauty Salon located at 222 N. Washington St.  Kasey Holmes is the manager-operator of the business.

10 Years Ago (1997)

The United States Achievement Academy announced today that Lindsey Haas from Thorp has been named a United States National Award Winner in English.

The United States Achievement Academy announced recently that Darin and Jesse Krzyzanowski of Thorp have been named United States National Award Winners in English.
