100 Years Ago (1907)

The Jump River Copper and Mining Co. has recently been organized and incorporated under the laws of the State of Wisconsin, with a Capital Stock of $100,000 divided into 100,000 shares of non-assessable stock of the par value of $1 each.

The brick work on the parochial school building is progressing rapidly.  The stone wall for the brick work of the new creamery is also nearly completed.

Postmaster Parkhill received word from the post office department that his salary would be increased from $1200 to $1300 per year beginning July 1st.

75 Years Ago (1932)

Last week saw the completion of the basement digging of the new American Legion building.

With left Alberts pitching masterful ball to leave the Stanley Blue Devils in a state of bewilderment, the whole Thorp team clicked smoothly and had no trouble in swamping their greatest rivals 6-2.

Damp cable, which caused much disturbance in the telephone communication in the village for the past two weeks, was cleared up last week by an expert in cable splicing, hired by the Thorp Telephone Co., for that purpose.

Freimund’s Corner – Mr. Ray Ketterhagen had the misfortune of getting run over by a wagon when his horses ran away on Thursday.  He was bruised quite badly but is able to be around again.

50 Years Ago (1957)

Diane K Zaborowski, 19, was chosen as one of our Alice in Dairyland Princesses.

Harry Smith, area farmer in the Town of Thorp will reign as Commander of the Thorp Legion Post succeeding Henry Nowobielski for the coming year.

Over 200 hundred persons from the Thorp area have benefited from Clark County’s participation in the Red Cross Blood Bank, since its initiation in the county only three years ago.

Pvt. Larry A. Biddle, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Biddle, Thorp, recently was graduated from the Military Police Training Center at Fort Gordon, GA.

25 Years Ago (1982)

Mr. DuWayne Winger began his job as the Clerk for the City of Thorp on Monday, June 7.

The new Miss Thorp for 1982 is Heidi Hoffman, 1st runner up, Lisa Baker and 2nd runner up Carmen Rosemeyer.

Spirits were running high when the Thorp High School baseball team returned from Sparta on Thursday, June 3, despite the loss to Weston in the Sectional baseball championship game. The Thorp Rural Fire Department fire truck; headed up the impromptu parade that took place in Thorp with the rescue squad bringing up the back amidst horns, sirens and cheering.

10 Years Ago (1997)

Village of Lublin President Joe Milas presented Bernice Nowak with a plaque for 22 years of service as Clerk for the Village of Lublin.

This year saw the retirement of six of Thorp’s School Districts employees: Frank Kondrasuk, Marge Marg, Bill Harycki, Adolph Koltis, Dale Haymann and Arlen Czerwinski.
