100 Years Ago (1907)

Wm Walsdorf will give a Thanksgiving ball at the Thorp Opera House on Friday, November 29th.  Music by Thorp Ideal Orchestra Tickets 50c Everyone Welcome

The city council decided last week to accept the proposal of the N. W. L. Co. to light up the city with lamps at the rate of $80 per year for each lamp.

75 Years Ago (1932)

Irene Donnelly, of Chippewa Falls, has rented the Sweet Shop on Highway 29 in this village, and will open same for business on Sunday, November 13th.

The Lions Club will gather clothes for the needy which will be turned over to the Red Cross for distribution.  Anyone having clothes to offer call Dr. Nolechek’s office.  Clothes will be gathered by the boy scouts.

50 Years Ago (1957)

An 82-year-old Thorp man was found in a state of shock in his overturned pickup truck at about 9:40 in Taylor County.  Anton Sappetta, driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, was unable to tell when or how the accident occurred.

Instead of painting their houses now-a-days, the farmers south of Thorp are putting an armor plating on them for protection from hunting violators, is the report given to the Courier.

One of the largest attended banquets sponsored by the Clark County Democratic Party was held at St. Hedwig’s Hall on Thursday evening.  More than 230 were in attendance to hear the district’s congressman and the Democratic candidate for governor.

25 Years Ago (1982)

Newly elected president of the Thorp Future Farmers of America Alumni, Bruce Gulcynski, presented Joani Beyer with a check in the amount of $100 for the betterment of the Northside Park in Thorp.

A cash flow problem from the State of Wisconsin has resulted in “roughly $50,000” of bills owed by the Thorp School District to be held by the Thorp Board of Education until December 1 for payment.

A group of over 150 residents listened to two guest speakers in the multi-purpose room of Thorp High School on November 10, during the Farm Forum sponsored by the Thorp Business Association.

10 Years Ago (1997)

The Thorp National Honor Society held a ceremony on November 5 at Thorp High School to induct the following new members: Bryan Larson, Craig Alger, Lane Peleschak, Julie Slowiak, Darcy Eichman, Andy Woods, Shannon Einhorn, Chris Boden, Heather Strojny, Carly Hein, and Mindy Haas.

Stanley and Dolores Arciszewski celebrated 50 years of marriage on the weekend of October 11 and 12 with their children and grandchildren in the Wisconsin Dells where they had originally spent their honeymoon.
