100 Years Ago (1907)

Stanley Sunbeams – Mrs. Olaf L. Olson died at her home here on December 19th.

F. Eastling has purchased the Jas. Smith dwelling and lots. Consideration $200

Leslie Selden, who has been (the) assistant at the depot for the past year, went to Fero, ND last week to accept a position as operator for the Great Northern Railway.

75 Years Ago (1932)

Peter Baum was bound over to circuit court by court commissioner K. J. Urquardt, at a hearing held at the courthouse yesterday morning, to stand trial for robbing the Lublin State Bank on the afternoon of Nov. 22.

John J. Koslowski, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Koslowski, was killed in a train wreck near Caddoa, Colorado, Tuesday.

C. E. Burss has accepted a position with the Consumer’s Hay Co., of Rhinelander, as salesman and agent in the state. The Phillips 66 oil station is under the supervision of his son Vernon.

50 Years Ago (1957)

Marine Pvt. Walter M. Pawlak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew T. Pawlak of Thorp, WI, completed four weeks of individual combat training Nov. 29 at the Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, CA.

Two vehicles were considered total wrecks in a head on collision Friday between trucks loaded with beer and 1,000 gallons of gasoline.

Robert L. Blazel, Clerk-Treasurer announced this week the City of Thorp council has approved without change the proposed 1958 budget for the city and set a 24.5 mil tax rate to raise $136,457.82.

25 Years Ago (1982)

A Thorp woman, Elizabeth Budzinski Tieman, 37, was thrown from the car that she was driving on December 19.  She died of massive head and neck injuries and her two passengers in the car did not receive serious injuries.

Members of the Thorp Volunteer Fire Department responded to a chimney fire at the Mr. and Mrs. Ray Pszeniczny residence, located at 308 W. Hill St. in the city of Thorp.

The owner of the Cantina in Thorp received the Golden Butter Knife Award for using Real Dairy products in menu and meal preparation.

10 Years Ago (1997)

The Thorp Fire and Ambulance Board of Directors, at their December 15 meeting, voted to increase service rates for ambulance service. The new in-district rate will be $150 compared to the old rate of $100.

Incumbent Mayor Justin Rosemeyer has filed papers of non-candidacy leaving the position open for the 1998 election.
