100 Years Ago (1908)

The Wisconsin Central Depot at Boyd was damaged by fire early Tuesday morning.  Origin of fire unknown

After being out of the meat market business for over a year, Herman Friess, last week, entered into partnership with W. P. Weisbrod, and will take an active interest again along with line.

Over a hundred new volumes of books wee recently added to the shelves of the Thorp Public Library.

Awnings are in general use again and a number of new ones, of the rolling pattern, are being put up.

75 Years Ago (1933)

While Thorp has much to boast of as it considers past achievements, it would be sheer folly at this stage of its community development to rest content with past laurels and cease striving for further advancement.

50 Years Ago (1958)

Fire of undetermined origin destroyed the house on the Walter Kitzrow farm, on CTH H, about two miles north of Stanley, about 2 a.m., Friday.  Mr. and Mrs. John Robinson and their 10 children fled in their night clothes.

Firemen were called to the John Lewandowski home on Third Ave. about 6:15 p.m., Thursday when a chimney fire broke out.

Rolling Meadows – Leonard Zukowski received his discharge from the Army last week and is enjoying his vacation at home.

25 Years Ago (1983)

Top Ten of Graduating Class of 1983: Carmon Rosemeyer, Patsy Slowiak, James Langteau, Terry Wetzel, Jay Stuttgen, Jennifer Osowski, Joseph Boden, Ralph Haas, Karen Krei and Pat Nowobielski.

Senior FBLA member, Patsy Slowiak, was recently selected as Thorp FBLA’s candidate for Who’s Who in FBLA by the Thorp FBLA Chapter.

10 Years Ago (1998)

The second week of March was marred by two traffic fatalities in Clark County.  Both accidents occurred less than a week apart on Highway 29 in approximately the same location.  Julie A. Holtzheimer, 30, Withee, became the second traffic fatality in Clark County this year when she was pronounced dead at 4:07 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 1998.

Keith Sladek arrived back in the states Sunday after competing successfully to take 23rd place in the world standing in the 10K Freestyle Nordic Skiing event.  Sladek went on to place 29th in the 5K Freestyle.
