100 Years Ago (1908)

Stanley Sunbeams – With a view of improving the sidewalks of this place the city council has voted to pay twenty-five percent of the costs of building sidewalks of cement or brick.

John Slota has accepted a position as a bookkeeper at the Peoples State Bank.

The W. C. depot was burglarized again last week, the plunder secured consisting of a ten-gallon keg of whiskey.

Colby Bros. sawmill began operations on Monday.

75 Years Ago (1933)

Fred Dettmering has purchased the Big Four cheese factory east of Unity, where he and his family may be found in the future.

Mr. Jos. Klouda, Sr. decided to quit business and sold his building to Robert Benzschawel and the balance of the shoe and rubber stock to the Farmers Store of Thorp.

Reseburg Ramblings – Louis Best erected a windmill at his place last week.

50 Years Ago (1958)

Val Wyczawski of Thorp has opened a service station on South Broadway near the Stanley city limits on Highway 29 and it is known as Val’s Cities Service Station.

Mark Hirsch, treasurer of the Thorp Finance Corporation, was elected President of the Thorp Lions Club at the annual election of the club Thursday evening.

The Thorp High School Band and Mixed Chorus, under the direction of Roy H. Brede, receiving a rating of “excellent” in all events entered at the district music festival held in Eau Claire Saturday, May 3rd.

25 Years Ago (1983)

Mr. Edwin Wehlacz began his new duty as the Stanley Postmaster on Friday, April 29. Wehlacz, a former Thorp resident, succeeds Don Gillette, who retired last year.

Gordon Smith, of Thorp, is the latest technician for Tri-State Breeders Cooperative, to become recipient of the elite 100,000 Cow Club award sponsored by the National Association of Animal Breeders.

10 Years Ago (1998)

Thorp High School senior class top ten percent: Heather Einhorn, Sana Grajkowski, Bridget Baures, Victoria Jaskot, Jamie Polnaszek, Shilo Stigen and Emily Wacker.

Lane Peleschak, Mindy Haas, Carly Hein and Darcy Eichman received scholarships to attend Business World this summer. Participants will receive firsthand business experience.
