Peter Heiser has secured new parts of mill machinery to replace those destroyed by fire last week and will have his portable sawmill in running order again in a few days.
 
A crew of workmen employed by the W. C. Railway rebuilt that company’s sidewalks in this village on Tuesday and yesterday.
 
75 Years Ago (1933)
 
Legionnaires of the 7th District of the Wisconsin American Legion numbering nearly 20,000 members will hold their district convention at Thorp on Sunday, June 4th.
 
The milk strike has been the main topic among farmers since Saturday last.
 
Rogers Creek and Town Line – O. Anderson, a Roger Creek boy, won first place in an extemporaneous speaking contest at the state university April 20.
 
Bellinger Square – Frank Skalecki’s store at Bellinger changed hands.
 
50 Years Ago (1958)
 
The Merry-Ol-Gardens dance hall, just south of Longwood settlement on Highway 73, north of Greenwood, was completely destroyed by fire discovered about 11 o’clock Saturday night.
 
Flames completely destroyed a two-story frame-type farm home near Eidsvold Monday afternoon.  The house was owned by Mr. and Mrs. George Smasal and had been occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dircks.
 
Agriculture is now in the midst of a great revolution.  It is changing from a way of living to a way of making a living.
 
Natalie Wood, Karl Malden, Marsha Hunt, and Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. star in an exciting new drama, “Bombers B-52,” which starts Sunday for three days at the Thorp Theater.
 
25 Years Ago (1983)
 
This Friday evening, May 20, Thorp High School will graduate 72 students in the Class of 1983.
 
Reverend Mr. Steven H. Baures, having completed studies at the Saint Paul Seminary, St. Paul, MN, will be ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of La Crosse on Saturday, May 21.  He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Baures of Thorp.
 
The Thorp FBLA Chapter is proud to announce that Mr. Francis J. Conway, founder of Thorp Finance Corporation, has been named Wisconsin Businessperson of the Year.
 
10 Years Ago (1998)
 
Leann Klapatauskas, Farm Credit Services NC Wisconsin Agent, received the Bronze Sale Club Award at the 1998 Agents’ Conference hosted Rural Community Insurance Services in Fort Myers, Florida in late March.
