100 Years Ago (1908)

A most unfortunate occurrence took place at the farm of Chas. Hardy in the Town of Reseburg about four o’clock on Tuesday afternoon. Several children had congregated at the barn where a match was lighted by one of them, the result being the destruction of the barn and contents including one horse.

Herman Friess shipped one car of cattle and one car of sheep to Chicago last week, and another car load of cattle on Tuesday of this week.

75 Years Ago (1933)

Lone Oak Cheese Factory Neighborhood – Albert Hodorowski was quite severely injured Sunday morning while returning home from the cheese factory when a truck struck his milk wagon and threw him to the ground.

Fred Hedler had a dance in his new barn Tuesday night at which a very large crowd attended. They also had another dance there Thursday night.

50 Years Ago (1958)

A number of citizens of Thorp are organizing an Industrial Development Corporation for all persons in the Thorp area. This group has met and chosen a steering committee.

The first of five sections of Highway 29 between Abbotsford and Chippewa Falls, scheduled for relocation, is that running east of Owen to a point near Thorp.

Flames were spread over a half block along Highway 29 at the city limits and the Thorp Firemen battled for 2 ˝ hours to put out a flaming cab and the trailer of a semi-truck early Tuesday morning.

25 Years Ago (1983)

Dr. Mark Monson has started in practice at the Three Rivers Veterinary Clinic in Thorp.

A severe thunderstorm ripped through the Thorp area Tuesday night, July 19, causing damage to trees and power lines.

Rev. Stanley Popowski was ordained a priest on June 24, 1983 at St. Helena Cathedral, Helena, Montana by Bishop Eldon F. Curtiss. Stan is the son of Raymond and Dolores Popowski of Lublin.

The Thorp Care Center has received its license as a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) by the Wisconsin Division of Health. Prior to the SNF license, the center was operating under the title of Intermediate Care Facility.

10 Years Ago (1998)

Recent high winds caused damage to Thorp cemetery monuments when large tree limbs were broken off and struck the gravesites.

Peter Kaz, son of Pete and Chris Kaz of Owen, and grandson of Ray and Betty Kaz of Thorp, used his talent in football to play center position for the North Team in the 22nd Annual North-South Shrine Bowl Game, July 18th at Titan Stadium in Oshkosh.
