100 Years Ago (1908)

Stanley Sunbeams – Prof. J. H. Ames, the new superintendent of Stanley’s Public Schools, arrived here last week and his family is expected follow in a few days.

Peter Heiser will operate three steam threshing outfits during the threshing season.

A vicious bull came mighty near ending the life of a sixteen year old son of Andrew Bogumill at the latter’s farm one day last week. The boy was roughly handled and suffered a dislocation of the right hip, which was reduced by Dr. McCutcheon.

E. L. Snyder is building a fifty foot addition to the rear end of his store, the wall being laid now by Christenson & Dudonsky.

75 Years Ago (1933)

Lions Club elects officers for year: President, C. K. Dittmer; 1st Vice Pres., F. J. Conway; 2nd Vice Pres., P. J. Oster; Treasurer, W. F. Nolechek; Secretary, R. J. Tolford; Tail Twister, J. W. Donnelly; Lion Tamer, John S. Bogumill.

Thorp Meat Market: Round steak, sirloin steak, 14˘ lb.; smoked picnic hams, bacon squares, ring bologna, beef roast, 10˘ lb.; old potatoes, 1 peck, 15˘.

50 Years Ago (1958)

Dr. Jerome J. Dietzler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Milferd Dietzler of Gilman has taken over the dental practice of Dr. G. A. Schief here, effective August 1st.

Members of the Clark County Board of Supervisors from the townships in Thorp area are circulating a petition to build an old-age home in Thorp.

Rev. Stanley K. Tyburski, 55, former pastor of St. Mary’s Polish National Catholic Church, Lublin, was found dead in his room in the Hotel Times Square in New York City, NY last Wednesday evening. He had died of natural causes.

25 Years Ago (1983)

Rosanne Ciolkosz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ciolkosz of Thorp, will be among the candidates competing for the title of Miss Teen of Wisconsin at State Pageant activities, which will be held in Eau Claire, WI.

Mark L. Koltis, 25, 207 E. Rusch St., Thorp, has been selected as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America by the Board of Advisors to the organization. He will be included in the 1983 edition of the Outstanding Young Men of America publication.

10 Years Ago (1998)

Clark County has been granted a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration, for Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation, as a result of damage sustained from the flooding on June 27, 1998.
