100 Years Ago (1910)

Stanley Sunbeams – The following appointive city offices of Stanley were filled last week as follows: Chief of Police, Thos. W. McKale; street commissioner, Simon Simonson; city attorney, C. B. Culbertson; health officer, Dr. C. H. Erdman. – Stanley now has two nightly moving picture shows – one at the opera house and one at the electric theatre on Broadway St.
 
The Thorp Manf’g Co. began the erection of their new dry kilns on Monday to replace the one destroyed by fire several weeks ago.
 
H. C. Tiedeman was busy last week taking the census of the village, and will begin work along the same line in the Town of Thorp this week.
 
75 Years Ago (1935)
 
Roger Creek and Town Line – The local factory is making both cheese and casein.  38 cents per lb. was the price paid for butter fat April 17th.
 
Breezy Hill Cheese Factory neighborhood – Eugene Laurent has been rehired to teach our school next year. This will be his fifth year, which speaks for itself. – Raymond Baldeschwiler is driving an oil truck for the Farmers Co-operative Oil Co.
 
Rolling Meadows – The Stanley Gulcynski family moved on the farm owned by Theo. Heiting.
 
50 Years Ago (1960)
 
A Thorp man has been appointed to an ambassadorial post in Zor Shrine temple by potentate Summer C. Timm, Eau Claire.  He is Corwin C. Guell who was among 385 Shriners from more than 135 Wisconsin communities who were appointed.
 
In a preliminary announcement of the population for Thorp, William G. Strock, district supervisor for the taking of census here, has set the population at 1493 and in Clark County at 31,172.

25 Years Ago (1985)

 
Representing the royalty for the 1985 Junior Class Prom that will take place this Saturday evening are Steve Burzinski and Diana Stroinski; Ray Gutowski and Lynn Hedler; Duane Konieczny and Renee Penk; Kevin Lewandowski and Sharon Krzyzanowski; and Brian Grendzinski and Julianna Kmieciak.
 
Top ten graduates of the Class of 1985 are announced: Tim Chmelik, Keven Burnett, Ray Jaskot, Alice Kotecki, Ann Oberle, Mike Osowski, Nathan Raciborski, Julie Sniegowski, John Bieno and Janelle Wincek.
 
10 Years Ago (2000)

 
The promise of spring is finally becoming a reality. With spring comes the annual Thorp High School Junior Prom.  Members of the prom court are Amanda Ederer, Erin Polnaszek, Ashley LaVick, Brianna Baures, Beth Wirtala, Missy Teschler, Shelly Haas, Julie Hull, Marcie Haas, Holly Grabow, Jesse Krzyzanowski, Donald Eichman, Christ Kotecki, Lance Haas, Scott Alger, Cole Frese, Adam Moore, Everette Poppe, Darin Krzyzanowski and Nick Haas.
 The new updated state maps are now available.  The new maps will include several completed highway projects including the WIS 29 Abbotsford bypass in Clark County.
