100 Years Ago (1910)

Stanley Siftings – Nels Stalheim has resigned the cashiership of the Farmers and Merchants State Bank at this place to accept a similar position at the First National Bank of Rice Lake.  J. B. Halverson has been appointed cashier here in place of Nels.
 
F. W. Fisher is building a silo adjoining his big barn on his farm in the Town of Worden.
 
A subscription paper is in circulation about town with the object in view of raising a fund to purchase the old race track property, including about seventeen acres from the present owner, M. Greisch.  It is proposed to raise a good round sum and then petition the village to pay the balance and take a deed of the property, which at present can be secured for about $1600.  About $400 has already been subscribed.
 
75 Years Ago (1935)

 
H. C. Tiedemann, of this village, who has served as conservation warden of Clark County for the past twenty-five years is numbered among those eligible for a pension.
 
Raymond Turenne, age 11, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Turenne, who had his hand injured about ten days ago in a hay rope at the Art Soderberg farm, was taken to the Owen Hospital and from there to the general hospital and from there to the general hospital Madison last Sunday for treatment for symptoms of lockjaw.
 
50 Years Ago (1960)

 
A group of 80 gifted high school seniors are attending a unique summer, science school at St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota.  Among the winners of the National Science Foundation scholarship was: Peter Bartl, Thorp, WI.
 
Stanley Swiontek, 61, Rt. 1, despondent over poor health, hanged himself in the granary on his farm in the Town of Withee, Thursday morning.
 
Funeral services were held Sunday for an Owen bulldozer operator fatally injured near Mondovi Tuesday while working for an Eau Claire contractor on Hwy 10 improvements.  T. Leonard Simon, 47, Rt. 4 was crushed when a bulldozer he was operating on the night shift overturned on a 15-foot embankment about 11 p.m. July 26.
 
25 Years Ago (1985)

 
Those disappointed by the rain out last year will get their chance to see the world’s largest tent circus August 11th when the Carson & Barnes Circus comes to Thorp for a 2:00 p.m. show at the Rochester Silo site.
 
Top honors for Blue Cheese at the 1985 Wisconsin State Fair went to products of Blue Moon Cheese Co. of Thorp.  Cheesemaker Don Rogalski took the blue ribbon with a score of 97.875 out of a possible 100, while second place went to cheesemaker Mike Frei with a score of 97.125.
 
10 Years Ago (2000)

 
Kane Meeker and Nathan Conway fulfilled the requirements of Eagle Scout.
 
The Clark County Sheriff’s Department dive team headed by Lieutenant Jeff Parker recently visited the Thorp Municipal Swimming Pool after hours to practice their diving skills.
 Austin Szemraj and Jackie Schimke were crowned as Prince and Princess Lublin during its annual Lublin Days celebration.
