100 Years Ago (1895)

Claus Banderob is putting 2000 pounds of honey on the market which his bees netted him during the season.  Claus evidently believes in diversified farming.
 
C. S. Lusk and family arrived here last week and are packing up their household goods preparatory for shipment to Fond du Lac.
 
Freedy and Craig, house movers, have moved Louis Johnson’s dwelling to its new location on the lots near the school house.
 
Thos. Steele Jr., superintendent of the Northwestern Lumber Cos. Farm south of the village, informs the Courier that the item of oats threshed on that farm last week numbers 5,870 bushels.  Melvin Nye also threshed in the neighborhood of 3,600 bushels oats, and Jos. Sterling, on his two farms, about the same amount.
 
75 Years Ago (1920)

 
Bobb Mill – Stanley Zdunczyk sold his farm and will move to Chicago. – A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ed Maricle on Oct. 8.
 
Neiman’s Corners – A very pretty wedding took place on Wed. Oct. 6 at the Lublin Church, when Miss Helen Mnichiwcz was united in marriage with Frank Herman.
 
Emil H. Ehlert, former proprietor of the Southpoint Cheese Factory and who recently sold his factory at Maiden Rock, was a visitor here on Friday last.
 
The City of Augusta is to have a sewage system.  The contract was let to E. A. Yahr, of Antigo last week, says the Augusta Eagle-Times, at a cost of $74,000.
 
Miss Sadie Poppe and Mr. Richard Sorenson, both of the Town of Reseburg, were united in marriage at the M. E. Parsonage at Withee, Wednesday of last week.
 
Miss Myrtie Aucutt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Aucutt, of this village and Mr. Frank VanderWegen, a hardware merchant at Withee, were united in marriage at  Withee on Monday, October 4th.
 
Anton Kotecki, E. H. Heidemann, Mike Wojkiewicz, Joe Walsdorf, Louis Kaczor and Casimer Osowski attended the examination for rural mail carriers at Stanley on Sat. last.  Louis Papierniak and Stanley Sokolowski also attended an examination for clerk in the railway mail service at Chippewa Falls the same day.
 
Frank Wilde and family departed for Woodburn, Oregon on Wed. of last week where they will reside in the future.
 
50 Years Ago (1945)
 
The Sacred Heart Church of Withee was the scene of a pretty wedding, Sat. the 13th of October, when Miss Genevieve Price, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Price, became the bride of First Lieutenant Marvin Thorson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Thorson of Withee.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Orea Nye, Jr., are the proud parents of a baby boy born Oct. 5th at the Chippewa Falls Hospital.
 
Alois Baldeschwiler, 84, passed away early Wed. morning at the Vistory (Victory) Hospital, Stanley, where he had been a patient for a week.
 
Dick Biddle, 86, one of the old timers and pioneers of Thorp, died at his home in the Town of Reseburg on Tues. morning, Oct. 16.  He was found dead in bed.
 
Wm. Lewin, 87, pioneer farmer of he Town of Reseburg passed away at his home on Thurs. October 11th.
 
Funeral services were held at St. Hedwig’s Church on Mon. Morning, Oct. 15th, for Frank Pogodzinski, 70, who passed away at the Legault Hospital at Owen, on Oct. 11, 1945.
 
Neiman’s Corner – A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lasiuk, Thur. morning.
 
West Worden – Born to Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Tomaszewski, a son.
 
25 Years Ago (1970)

 
Lublin – Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Zakrzewicz are the parents of a baby boy.  They named him Philip Lucian.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Turenne wish to announce the birth of twin girls on Sept. 30, 1970, Kim Lucille and Kay Mildred.  Kay passed away Oct. 2, but Kim is doing fine.
 
Thorp’s Cardinals dealt Greenwood a first setback of the season at Thorp Friday night, 14-8 and took undisputed possession of first place in the Eastern Cloverbelt Conference football race.
 
Breezy Hill – The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Casper Haas Jr., Casper Kenneth, was baptized on Sun. at St. Bernard’s.
 
Mrs. Stella Malinowski, 73, died Sun. Oct. 4, at St. Nicholas Hospital.
 
Alexander J. Trybula, 53, of Greenwood, died Sept. 30 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield shortly after he was admitted.  He had been in ill health the past two years.
 
Katherine Krych, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Krych, became the bride of Albert Panek, October 10 at St. Hedwig’s Chapel.
 
Mr. Walter C. Mudgett, a long time resident of Hannibal and who move to Calif. in the 1950’s, died at a San Luis Obispo, Calif. hospital Thurs. Sept. 24.
 
10 Years Ago (1985)

 
It was only a few short months ago that Thorp residents welcomed a new physician, Dr. Howard Axtell, and his family.  Now residents grieve with the family after a tragic fire swept through the former PCA building on North Washington St. Friday night, Oct. 11th; taking the life of eight year old Michael Axtell.
 
Bertha Pawlak, 68, Thorp, died suddenly Mon. Oct. 14, 1985 at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley.
 
August Abramczuk, 60, Thorp, died Tues. Oct. 15, 1985 at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley.
 
Petronella Hanley-Soli, 66, Stanley, died Sat. Oct. 12, 1985 at St. Joseph Hospital, Marshfield.
 
Rebecca Sue Andruszkiewicz and Scott Alan Strzok, both of Thorp exchanged marriage vows on Sat. Sept. 28, 1985 at St. Bernard’s-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Thorp.
