100 Years Ago (1896)

Eggs are selling at 20˘ and scarce at that figure.
 
Winter seems to have set in, in earnest. The thermometer indicated twelve below zero on Mon. Morn.
 
Married at the residence of the bride’s parents in the Town of Mayville on Nov. 25th Mr. John Zimmer Jr. and Miss Bertha Schmidt.  They arrived here on Sat. last and will reside on Mr. Zimmer’s farm near Reseburg.
 
Mathias Pederson, 56, of the Town of Worden died early on Thur. morning last.
 
Mrs. Magdalena Langemark, 55, wife of our esteemed townsman Christian Tiedemann, died of paralysis on Sun. evening Nov. 29, 1896 at her home.
 
75 Years Ago (1921)
 
Worden – A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Baldeschwiler, Mon. Nov. 21.
 
Bonczyk’s Corner – A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Konieczny on Sun. last.
 
R. J. Brunner and Mike Zaborowski; who have been at the Chippewa hospital for several weeks, returned to their homes here on Wed. of last week.  Both are recovering.
 
What more appropriate time could there be selected for the union of hearts than Thanksgiving Day.  This day was the occasion selected by Mis Appollonia David and Mr. Paul D. Brunett for the wedding and the affair was consummated at St. Bernard’s Church.  Father Jno Neises performing the ceremony.
 
Reseburg – A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Victor Lobacz Nov. 22.
 
50 Years Ago (1946)

 
Funeral services for Edwin Pele, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Pele, of Lublin, were held at St. Stanislaus Church there on Mon. morning, Dec. 2nd.
 
Lone Oak – The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pietrazak died on Thurs.  The baby was one of the twin daughters born Nov. 14.
 
A seven pound daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Moleolin Grueschow on Nov. 28 at Milwaukee.  Mrs. Grueschow will be remembered here as Marjorie Manicki.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kaz and family moved from their farm in the Town of Reseburg to the east part of the Village and are now residing in the house recently purchased from Clarence Wellner.
 
Neiman’s Corner – A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Gedmon Mikolainis on Fri. morning, Nov. 29th.  They will name her Suzette.
 
Eidsvold – Born to Mr. and Mrs. David Porter, of Forrest Park, Ill., a son on Nov. 23rd.  They named him David Martin.  Mrs. Porter will be remembered here as Geraldine Anason.
 
Yellow River – The barn and ten head of stock burned on the George Welch farm last Thurs. evening.
 
25 Years Ago (1971)
 
Dorene Faye Kuehl, 3 month of (old) daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Kuehl, rural Thorp, was found dead in her crib Sun. by her mother.
 
Henry A. Broeren, 61, Tiskilwa, Ill., died Sat. Nov. 13, 1971 at his home.
 
Seventeen Thorp High School graduates enrolled in Stout State University, Menomonie this semester:  J. R. Dobrzynski, Betty Ringelspauch, James Sandel, Joanne Zielanis, Arlene Leszewski, Dennis Karnopp, Betsy Carey, David Morgan, Richard Schesel, Susan Kobylarczyk, Terry Biddle, Jerry Sniegowski and Timothy Smith.
 
10 Years Ago (1986)
 
Helen Hmielak, 78, Thorp, died Sat. Nov. 29, 1986 at Victory Memorial Nursing Home, Stanley.
 
Shirley Mae Wittek, 60, Withee, died Tues. Nov. 25, 1986 at St. Joseph’s Hospital Hospice, Marshfield.
 
Edwin Jacob Richard Piwoni, 57, Kenosha, was pronounced dead Mon. Nov. 24, 1986 at Kenosha Memorial Hospital, Kenosha where he was taken after suffering a massive hart (heart) attack.
 
Roman Gorka, 80, Boyd, died Fri. Nov. 21, 1986 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chippewa Falls.
