100 Years Ago (1896)

Hon. E. J. MacBride, Consul to Leith Scotland, was as a welcome visitor here on Tues.
 
The Crusaders are laboring with Joe Baxter and several other hardheads at Eidsvold this week.
 
The Thorp Dramatic Club will produce their play, “Better Than Gold”, at Walsdorf Hall on Tues. evening, Dec. 22nd.
 
John Zimmer Sr., an old and respected resident of the Town of Reseburg died of pneumonia on Mon. morning last, age 68 years.
 
75 Years Ago (1921)

 
Worden – A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Haas, Thurs. Dec. 8th.
 
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Burss on Tues. Dec. 6th.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Thiel recently sold their farm in the Town of Reseburg to their son, Herman Thiel, Jr., and last week went to West Allis where they will reside. 
 
Miss Eda Karlen, aged thirteen years, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edw. Karlen of the Town of Thorp, died of Scarlet fever on Mon. evening.
 
50 Years Ago (1946)

 
A pretty wedding took place at St. Patrick’s Church in Eau Claire, Sat. morning, Nov. 23, when Miss Mercedes Maier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Maier of Thorp, became the bride of Donald Borton, son of Mr. Odin Mock, Eau Claire.
 
On Sat. Nov. 30 at St. Hedwig’s Church, Chicago, a pretty wedding was observed when the marriage of Miss Charlotte Patchak, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Patchak, of Cadott and William Pyszyna (Prszyna), son of Mrs. Catherine Prszyna (Pyszyna), Chicago.
 
Born: to Mr. and Mrs. Mike Kaminski, Thorp, a boy Thadeus Anthony on Dec. 11 at Victory Hospital, Stanley.
 
Neiman’s Corner – Word was received here that a baby girl, Susan Marie, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Rhodes in Chicago, Sat. Dec. 14th.  Mrs. Rhodes will be remembered as Marie Przesmycki.
 
Breezy Hill – A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Firman Baures at the Victory Hospital in Stanley on Thurs. Dec. 12.
 
The Bogumill Real Estate firm announces that they have sold the lots 11 and 12 in the L. E. Bogumill addition to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jeras who plan to erect a house in the near future, they have also sold the John Rogus 160 acre farm in the Town of Reseburg to Geo. Trybula.
 
On Thanksgiving morning at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Thorp, Miss Rita Schmitt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Schmitt, of Thorp and Edward J. Galen, of Milwaukee were joined in marriage.
 
Yellow River – The infant son born to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kenner, Dec.8th passed away on Wed. at the Victory Hospital in Stanley.
 
North Hillside – Word has been received here of the birth of a son to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Sandvig of Racine.  They were former residents here.
 
25 Years Ago (1971)

 
Felix Nowak, 63, Lublin passed away Mon. Dec. 6 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in Marshfield, suddenly.
 
Mrs. Tony Gruba, 44, route 3, Stanley, Town of Worden, Clark County, was found dead at her home.
 
Barb Stanula of Thorp has been named corresponding secretary on the Marathon County Campus student government body of the University of Wisconsin.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Roger Rycerz are the proud parents of a baby girl, Julia Ann.
 
Kathy Ann Wilczek, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wilczek was baptized on Nov. 28, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenwood.
 
Magnus C. Hansen, 72, St. Peru, Indiana, died at the Veterans Hospital, Marion, Nov. 26.  He had been ill for some time.
 
Mrs. Mabel (Evelyn) Isenberger, 75, resident of Stanley, passed away at the Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley Thurs.
 
William H. Yenni, 66, Neillsville, president and general manager of Auto Test, Inc. of Neillsville, died late Sat. in a Rochester, Minn. hospital.
 
Michael Stangret, 86, Stanley, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls, Wed. morning.
 
Miss Lynn Marie Prill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Demars, Withee, and Spec. 4 Gary Drew Potocnik son of Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Potocnik, Owen, were married, Sat. Oct. 30 in St. Hedwig’s Chapel, Thorp.
 
Airman William Frenette, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Frenette, Thorp, has received his first U. S. Air Force duty assignment after completing basic training at the Air Training Command’s Lackland AFB, Texas.
 
Miss Deborah Maier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Maier, Thorp, became the bride of Dale Olson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Olson of Greenwood, on Oct. 2, 1971 at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, Thorp.
 
10 Years Ago (1986)

 
Thorp residents were named Outstanding Young Men of America for 1986.  Thorp Mayor, David Keating, was named to the list.  Also named was former Thorp resident Gordon Hubbard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Hubbard, Sheboygan.
 
Danyl S. Haas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Haas, Thorp, and Dennis Lato, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Lato, Stanley, exchanged marriage vows on Oct. 4, 1986 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Withee.
 
Thorp High head basketball coach Jack Tetzner cold have his 500th career coaching win this week, thanks to a 65-52 victory by the Cards over Owen-Withee Fri. Dec. 12.
