100 Years Ago (1897)

Williams Circus spent Mon. in the village.
 
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ed Powell of Eidsvold on Mon. so reports Dr. Selden.
 
The village board is causing several hundred loads of gravel to be distributed on the streets in all parts of the village.
 
Miss Ann Barrett and Arthur Steele drove to Greenwood on Wed. of last week where they were united in marriage at the residence of Martin Richelien by Rev. W. T. Hendren.
 
75 Years Ago (1922)

 
Town Line Topics – We understand that Frank LeBont has rented his farm to Geo. Vandehey and he will retire from farming for a while. – John Techmeier has taken down his old house and will use some of the material in the construction of his new residence.  In the meanwhile the family has a temporary home in a small building erected for the purpose.
 
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Asselin on Fri. May 26th.
 
H. A. Liberty recently sold his handsome residence property to Leon Bogumill.  Mr. Liberty and family expect to move back to their farm west of Stetsonville.
 
Mrs. Myrtle Parks, 44, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Fri. evening, May 26, 1922.
 
50 Years Ago (1947)

 
At a two o’clock service in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at Reseburg, Sat. May 31, Miss Regina E. Gorsegner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Gorsegner, of Thorp, exchanged wedding vows with Carl H. Broeking, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Broeking of Stanley.
 
The marriage of Miss Mary Klick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Klick of Thorp and Wayne Sondgeroth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Sondgeroth, of Mendola, Ill., took place before an altar decorated with pink snapdragons and lighted candles at a nuptial high mass, Thurs. May 8th at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church.
 
Mrs. Julia Szatalowicz, 75, passed away Wed. morning, June 4th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Paul Cukla.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Haas of Stanley are the parents of a baby boy, born on May 25th at the Victory Hospital at Stanley.
 
Neiman’s Corner – Word was received here that a baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Louis Szymanski, Sun. May 25th in Chicago. They named him Louis Robert Jr.
 
Roger Creek – A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Merle Hendrickson, who are living in the Shortell house on Town Line.
 
Butler – Born to Mr. and Mrs. Mike Klapatauskas, a baby boy on Wed. May 28th at the Victory Hospital in Stanley.
 
Mrs. Frances Tomaszewski, 80, who passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Geo. Mieloszyk at Chetek on May 17, 1947, was laid to rest in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery at Thorp.
 
Born: to Mr. and Mrs. George Burzynski Jr., on Tues. June 3rd, a daughter.  They named her Gail Gladys.
 
25 Years Ago (1972)

 
Stanley Kaczmarek, 62, passed away Sat. morning at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.
 
Frank Bielecki, 71, died at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley, on Sun. afternoon.
 
Federal Judge and Mrs. John Reynolds Mon. became the parents of a son Joseph.
 
Terry Misfeldt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Misfeldt, Thorp, was a candidate for the Bachelor of Science degree in mass communications at the U. of Wisconsin, La Crosse.

Marcella Ciokiewicz, 64, died Mon. June 1, 1987 at Roseville, Calif.
 
William Warns, 81, Owen, died Thurs. May 28, 1987 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.
 
A memorial service was held for Richard (Dick) Mattes, May 27, 1987 in Milwaukee.
 
Mary Zowal, 101, Owen, died Thurs. May 28, 1987 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.
 
Gilman – Bruce and Nancy Liazuk are proud to announce the birth of their son, Michael James, born to them on May 17.
 
Dawn J. Biddle and Ted N. Tabbert were joined in marriage thru Christ at Elmbrook Church, Waukesha.
 
Roger Creek – Mr. and Mrs. Mel Haas have a new granddaughter, Katelyn Ashley, born Tues. May 26 to Mr. and Mrs. Bob Westaby.
 
Those who celebrated birthdays were Donavon Muenzel, Nellie Brown, Lois Manglos, Rosella Herrick, Jerry Waldusky, Leonard Paul, Louise Szymanski, Mike Lencz, and Walter Liazuk.
 
Carol Duss of Stanley joined the Grey Lady volunteers.  Thanks to all who helped make this party enjoyable.
