100 Years Ago (1898)

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Leibole the 11th inst.
 
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Sigmund Urban Friday, May 13.
 
Little Irma Mertens gave a party to a few of her school companions at her home on Sun. last.
 
Peter Trybowski and Miss Anna Segen were married at St. Hedwig’s Polish Catholic Church, on the 10th inst.
 
Jos. Klouda went to Abbotsford on Sat. last to meet his wife and two children who have just arrived from Germany.  His sister, who also accompanied them on their journey over, stopped over at Chicago to visit a couple of days and arrived here on Mon.
 
Dr. McCutcheon reports the birth of a son to Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Carlson of Eidsvold on Tues.
 
75 Years Ago (1923)
 
Neiman’s Corner – A baby girl was born Sun. to Mr. and Mrs. P. Piwoni.
 
Geo. Huls and sons opened up their general store, which they recently erected near the Albert Cheese Factory in West Thorp on Monday last.
 
Mr. Walter E. Boelter and Miss Vera Kass of this village were united in marriage at St. Bernard’s Church on Sat. morning May 12th.
 
Mary Elizabeth Courter, 69, was born at Plymouth, Wis., on Dec. 7, 1854 and died at her home in this village on May 10, 1923.
 
Dr. W. J. Frank sold his residence property last week to S. C. Christenson, manager of the Garrison Mer’tle Co. Store.  Dr. Frank, whose health is not the best, will remove to San Luis Obispo, Calif. with his family.
 
Frances, the ten year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Zaborowski, of the Town of Thorp, died on Thurs. morning as a result of burns received on Tues., while playing with matches alone in the upper part of her home.
 
50 Years Ago (1948)
 
Val Dobrzynski, 82, passed away at the Marshfield Hospital on Wed. May 5th.
 
St. Bernard’s Catholic Church was the scene of the wedding Sat. morning, May 8, of Miss Amelia Wink, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Wink of the Town of Reseburg, and Frank Hodorowski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hodorowski, of the Town of Withee.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Adam Wojt of Thorp have been advised by the government that the remains of their son, John Frank Wojt, are enroute to the United States.
 
Rolling Meadows – Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Deniszkiewicz purchased a farm in Eidsvold on Fri.
 
Mrs. Joseph Sheblak sold her residence property on the west side of the city to Dr. Ralph Stuesser, Thorp veterinarian.
 
Around the Corner – Mr. and Mrs. Marlen Aumann, of Stanley are the proud parents of a baby boy, born May 13th.  Mrs. Aumann was formerly Mamie Horounziak.
 
25 Years Ago (1973)
 
CORRECTION – Reseburg – Born to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Robert Alger, a baby boy on May 8th.  Last week it was put under the 10 years ago.
 
Among the students to tour Europe with the UW-River Falls band this year will be Linda Suda, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Suda, Greenwood.
 
The following Thorp students were awarded honors at the Honors Day program at the UW-River Falls: Candice Horn, Jeanie Maslowski, and John Nied.
 
Mrs. Rose Ann Baures, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Baures, Thorp, received her diploma from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing on Tues. May 22nd.
 
Mitterhoffer – Mr. and Mrs. Robert Aumann are the proud parents of a baby girl.
 
Miss Diane Baures, Wausau and James Mroczenski, Marathon, were married Sat. April 28th, in St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.

Catherine Kaz, 92, Thorp, died Fri. May 6, 1988 at Victory Memorial Nursing Home, Stanley.
 
Evelyn Warms, 83, died Tues. May 10, 1988 at the Thorp Care Center.
 
Thanks to a donation from Courtesy Ford – Mercury owner, Roger Olejniczak, the Thorp Fire Department has a new piece of equipment.  Courtesy Ford donated a Ford F-250 pickup, which was reinforced and fitted with special equipment for fighting grass fires.
 
Donald B. Letvinuck, 65, died Tues. April 12, 1988 at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
 
Martha Sorenson, 86, Owen died Sun., May 8, 1988 at Victory Memorial Nursing Home in Stanley.
 
Albert Steffen, 80, Stanley, died Mon. May 2, 1988 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.
 
The Thorp High School faculty has chosen Jean Pagel to represent Thorp High School in quest of one of fourteen 41,500 state wide scholarships given by the Wisconsin State Telephone Foundation.
 
Butler – Sun. April 24, a daughter, Krisa Lynn, was born to Ted and Dawn Tabbert of Milwaukee.  Proud grandparents are Jim and Shirley Biddle.
 Randy and Terri Acker, Eric, Eryn, Jessica, Brandon, and Emily attended a graduation party for Tiffany Acker at the Roger Acker home.  Emily attended a graduation party for Jarod Acker at the Dan and Phyllis Acker home last Saturday.
