100 Years Ago (1898)

Eidsvold – A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Fowler Hopkins on the 29th inst.
 
The high school, under the provisions of the state law is an assured fact, more than a necessary number of pupils to establish the same having passed a satisfactory examination.
 
Miss Emma A. Albert and Clarence E. McKee were married at the residence of the groom’s parents, in this village, by Rev. Bachman, June 29th.
 
The funeral of Mrs. Lillie, 41, wife of John Delapp, of the Town of Hixon, occurred on Mon. from the M. E. Church in this village.
 
Mrs. Bertha, 28, wife of Mat Kaudy, died at her home in this village of enteritis on Fri. noon last after a week’s severe illness.
 
75 Years Ago (1923)

 
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Rasmussen on Wed. June 20th.
 
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Anton J. Kotecki on Thurs. June 21st.
 
Herman Holzhausen has begun the erection of a new residence on the site of the one destroyed by fire several months ago.
 
Lightning destroyed the barn of Peter Kmiec on Sun. last and strong winds destroyed Otto Darge’s and John Ruda’s silos.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Ignatz Klak attended the commencement exercises at the University of Wisconsin last week.  Their son John who completed the course in electrical engineering will be with the Wis. Telephone Co.  Their son George who received his degree at Ripon College will be assistant principal and teacher of physics at Bison, S. Dak.
 
Guy R. Leiby, regular carrier on mail route No. 3, has tendered his resignation to take effect on Aug. 1st.  Mr. Leiby has accepted a position as agent and distributor for the Westbrook Tank Line Co., of St. Paul.
 
Miss Phoeba Burss, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Burss, and Mr. Edgar Jacogs, of Kohler, Wis. were united in marriage at Sheboygan on Tues. of last week.
 
A pretty home wedding was solemnized at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kronberg when their daughter Maud, was united in marriage to Joseph J. Kulwiec of Lublin by Rev. Elwick Wed. afternoon.
 
Albert F. Blank, 60, was born in Pulmer Co., Germany April 15, 1853 and died at his home here Fri. June 22. 1923.
 
50 Years Ago (1948)
 
A baby girl, Lillian, was born to Tony and Helen Hagen, June 5.  She was welcomed home by a sister Avis.
 
A very pretty wedding took place at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church on the morning of June 19th when Father Piekarski united in the holy bonds of matrimony, Caroline, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Sobolewski and Joseph, son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Lato, all of Thorp.
 
Rolling Meadows – Mr. and Mrs. Chas Gutowski had their infant daughter baptized on Sun. at St. Hedwig’s Church.  They named her Geraldine Louise.
 
Eidsvold – Gayle Bivans sold his farm to Lex Bernhagen, of Thorp recently.
 
NW Thorp – Word has been received that a baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Marion Szatalowicz, of Manhattan, Kansas June 18th.
 
Breezy Hill – A son, Thomas George, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Butterfield at the Victory Hospital in Stanley on Fri.
 
Miss Jeanette Strade, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Strade, Curtiss, became the bride of Alfred Telford, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Telford, Owen, Tues. June 15 in the rectory of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Owen.
 
St. Ann’s Church, Stanley was the scene of the wedding of Miss Mildred Marie Haase, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Haase, to Ervin Van Den Heuvel, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Van Den Heuvel of Gilman, Sat. June 5th.
 
Butler – A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bizjak, of Willard, at the Marshfield Hospital, June 18th.
 
Louis Pagel Sr. has moved his house in the City from its former location just outside the east limits on Highway 29.
 
Junction – Mr. and Mrs. John Fijalkiewicz are the proud parents of a baby girl born to them on Sun. morning at the Stanley Hospital.
 
Joined in the holy bonds of matrimony on Sun. afternoon, June 13th, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Chicago, Ill. was Miss Genevieve Kruppa, daughter of Mrs. Martha Kruppa, of Chicago, and Frank Krych, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Krych, of Thorp.
 
The Methodist Church at Thorp was the scene of the marriage on Fri. June 11th, of Miss Margaret Dittner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dittner, Butler Township, and Gordon Walker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Walker, Augusta.
 
25 years Ago (1973)

 
Mrs. Wallace J. (Cleo) Landry, 80, a former Neillsville resident, died Mon. morning, June 18th, at Oak Ridge (TN) Hospital following a stroke.
 
Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Chippewa Falls, was the scene for the wedding of Miss Constance Jane Enger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Enger, Chippewa Falls to Gordon Peter Wagner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wagner, Thorp, on Sat. June 9th.
 
Nellie Ellen Boardman, 83, resident of Stanley, passed away at Victory Memorial Hospital on Wed.

Thaddeus (Ted) Glowacki, 87, Thorp, died Sat. June 18, 1988 at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley.
 
Flo Halterman, 89, longtime resident of Stanley, died Tues. June 14, 1988 at Victory Memorial Nursing Home, Stanley.
 
John “Jack” Tarris, 86, Gilman, died Mon. June 13, 1988 at Victory Memorial Hospital, Stanley.
 
Eugene (Chet) Kern 69, Gilman, of he Town of Taft, Taylor County, died Mon. June 13, 1988 at his home.
 
Wayne H. Haas, 46, Stanley, Town of Delmar, Chippewa County, died Sun. June 19, 1988.
 
Karen Jean Zurakowski and Joel Allen Stuttgen were married on Sat. April 23, 1988 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church, Thorp.
 
On Sat. April 30, 1988, Jodie Lynn Kostick, daughter of Roger and Shirley Kostick of Thorp, became the bride of Mark Allen Kolecheck, son of Dave Kolecheck, Gilman and Carol Kolecheck, Medford, in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Thorp.
 
Gilman – Congratulations to Greg and Shannon Mravik on the birth of a son, Bradford Michael born to them on Wed. June 15, 1988 at the Medford Memorial Hospital.
