100 Years Ago (1898)

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Thos. P. Bolin on June 30th, and a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Tompkins on July 1st.
 
Julius Rasmussen is somewhat of a cripple, having suffered a dislocation of the left shoulder while endeavoring to teach a bicycle to go in the right direction.  Julius explains his condition by saying a mule kicked him while at work in his blacksmith shop.
 
Anson Heagle has taken a half interest with Louis Banderob in the latter’s saloon.  John Landry has failed as yet to take out license which leaves but five saloons in operation in the village at present.
 
75 Years Ago (1923)

 
Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Elmdorf moved to Antigo on Thurs. last, where he will be employed as cheesemaker.
 
Miss Olive VanErt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter VanErt, and Mr. George Seidl, of Milwaukee were united in marriage at St. Ann’s Church at Stanley on Tues. of last week. They will reside in Milwaukee.
 
50 Years Ago (1948)

 
James Ruben Vetterkind, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Vetterkind, one year, eight months and 18 days, drowned in the water tank on his father’s farm in the Town of Reseburg on Fri. June 25th.
 
A very pretty wedding took place at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Chicago in the afternoon, June 20th when Alice, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Zukowski, Thorp and Frank, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cervenski, Chicago were united in marriage.
 
At a candlelight ceremony in the Methodist Church at Stanley on June 4, Miss Shirley Mae Soderberg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Einar H. Soderberg, Town of Worden, became the bride of Earl James Isaacs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Isaacs.
 
Taft – A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ben Wald, June 25th in the Victory Hospital.
 
Mr. Donald Ramberg, son of Edward Ramberg and Miss Dolores Patricia Langiewicz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Langiewicz, all of Thorp, were united in marriage at St. Mary’s Rectory in Stanley, Sat. morning June 26th.
 
Miss Marian Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Smith of Stanley, became the bride of Andrew Shuk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Shuk, Sr., of Chicago in a ceremony performed at St. Mary’s Church, Stanley on the morning of Sat. June 26.
 
Yellow River – A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Duffy on Thurs. June 24th at the Victory Hospital, -- A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ingman Bolstead on Thurs. June 24th at the Victory Hospital.
 
25 years Ago (1973)

 
Frank Pawlowicz, 91, a former resident of Lublin died Sat. at Jacksonville Beach, Florida.
 
Identical twin daughters were born July 5th to Mr. and Mrs. Dale Brunner, nee Vickie McCue, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
 
Nettie Karpinski, 75, died at her home on July 2nd of an apparent heart attack.
 
Funeral services for Ingvald Martin Amdahl, 80, of Stanley, were held July 2, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Stanley.
 
Teofila Siok, 91, resident of Town of Taft, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walter Jankowski, Chicago, on June 27th.
 
10 Years Ago (1988)

 
Ann Rhyner, 83, died Mon. June 17, 1988 at the Thorp Care Center.
 
Frank A. Ogurek, 87, Thorp, died Fri. June 24, 1988.
 
Jeremy Wayne, son of Mark and Becky Serocki was baptized Sun. June 26, 1988 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Church.
 
Jessica Renee Lucas daughter of Michael and Donna Lucas was born April 13, 1988 in Dallas, Texas.
 
Jennifer Kryzanski and Ron Sciaraffa exchanged wedding vows on April 22, 1988 at the Abundant Life Church, Thorp.
 
Gilman – Congratulations to Greg and Shannon Mravik on the arrival of Bradley Michael at the Medford Hospital, June 15th.
 
Albert Gatke, 73, Spring Grove, IL and Sun City, AZ passed away Fri. June 17, 1988 at St. Theresa Medical Center, Waukegan, IL.
 
Mary Andrews, 90, died Sat. June 25, 1988 at Wisconsin Veterans Home in King.
 
Savery Szczesniak, 84, Town of Maplehurst, died Mon. June 27, 1988.
 
Frances Sonnentag, 79, Osseo Nursing Home, died Sat. June 25, 1988.
 
Eugene Allen Samplawski, 41, St. Paul, MN, died June 26, 1988.
